  1. That is what I am seeing as well. To me he seems to have lost some bat speed. His swing seems sluggish compared to years past
  2. For what it is worth, JDM isn't having a particularly good ST thus far.
  3. Tom Yawkey's racism was well known. The Red Sox to their disgrace were the last MLB team to integrate. This undoubtedly helped explain why the team declined so much during the 1950s
  4. Once again ESPN provides a textbook case of how not to broadcast a baseball game. They are the worst.
  5. You have no idea what their plan is. Neither do I nor anyone else who posts here. But if Morosi is to be believed ( and there is no reason to doubt him) Cora got A good long look at Duran in the Puerto Rico
  6. Guess who is starting in CF in today's game?
  7. Actually there is the following truth. As the saying goes if you always do what you always did you always get what you always got. Let's never try the untried. If we believed that we would never try anything new. I am glad Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford et al didn't subscribe to that philosophy.
  8. I think the only question is if Morosi is accurately reporting Cora and the Red Sox's opinion. JBJ is not the future. JBJ in center field will not substantially change the Red Sox's playoff possibilities. But, a young ballplayer having a true breakout season in center field while not guaranteeing a playoff run will increase the chance of that happening. Moreover I know what we are going to get with JBJ. If I have to suffer through a 500 season I want to see a young player who has potential to thrill with the possibility of having that breakout season that Morosi says the Red Sox believe is a possibility.
  9. Why sign JBJ at all if Bloom and Cora actually believe that Duran is to have a break out year. According to Morosi Cora saw Duran in the PR winter league. So presumely he is in the best situation to determine whether Duran is ML ready. Of course this all depends on Morosi accurately reporting Cora's opinion.
  10. JP Morosi said today that Cora and the Red Sox expect that this could be Duran's breakout year. Duran played winter ball in Puerto Rico and impressed Cora. Morosi said Sox are comparing Duran to Jacoby Ellsbury. If what Morosi said is true and accurately describes the Red Sox and Cora's opinion what does that mean for JBJ?
  11. Or it could have been that JBJ was simply not that attractive a player to other teams because Boston thought more of him than the rest of baseball and wanted more in return than other clubs were willing to pay.
  12. You will have to ask them!
  13. I certainly agree. The bigger point is that Boston because of the media hype always over valued JBJ compared to the rest of baseball.
  14. Ballplayers today are mercenaries. They go where they can get the best money. It is quite obvious that JBJ's market is not where he thought it would be. The red sox if they decide to sign JBJ should do so at his market price. I just don't think JBJ's market is at 12 for 2. Maybe it should be higher but I do not think it is. If the Red Sox are the only bidders then of course they shouldn't bid against themselves. If they can get him for less than 6 for one year then they should do so. JBJ would not hesitate to sign with another club for more money if he could. To me a ballplayer's value is determined by his market value.
  15. An individual young player maybe, but a group of young inexperienced players need structure. We will see but over the last twenty Yeats I have seen too many Jays teams not live up to their early hype.and collapse like a cheap folding chair.
  16. The Jays are really the big unknown. Until Canada eases cross border travel they are literally nomads. I think not having a settled home in Major League ballpark, Buffalo is a poor alternative could cause issues depending how long that goes on. I realize they will be playing some early games in Florida. Plus Jays team in recent years have the habit of fading down the stretch. In think every team in the ALE will be somewhat less predictable than their on paper evaluations make them out to be. Personally I think the 21 season is going to be more of a crap shoot than any realize at least early on.
  17. Here is an interesting item to chew on: Extremely interesting article on pitching, today, in of all places the Wall St Journal. The basic premise of the article is that due to several factors not the least of which was the short season last year, major league clubs and their GMs are worried about pitcher durability in 2021. The major conclusion of the article is that pitching depth not pitching strength will be the overriding factor in a teams success this year. Simply put the conclusion is that it won't be the team with the best two or three pitchers but rather the team with the most good pitchers that will be successful in 21.
  18. Yes but the roles will be reversed. That too is inevitable.
  19. According to recent reporting out of the Athletic and at least one British sports publication, Henry and Werner are deeply involved in trying to create a super European football league comprising teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid etc.
  20. I was not referring to you when I made the comment about crying about losing him. I was speaking in general. I happen to agree with your overall point. I think any team who gives a player a contract beyond 7 years will.ultimately regret the back end of the deal.
  21. There was no way John Henry was going to give Mookie Betts a twelve year contract. It never was going to happen. Moreover while Boston may be a major market, the Red Sox simply do not have the financial resources to match the Dodgers. If there were to be so foolish to do so, such a contract would soon be seen as a millstone around their necks as Betts skills declined just as other superstars with long term contracts have. Soon fans would have been bitching about his contract just as some fans have bitched about others. So let's stop crying about Betts, he is Dodger and let's see how long LA fans last before some start complaining about how Betts contract negatively impacts their competetiveness
  22. So am I. Porcello is an innings eater.
  23. Bloom said this trade was to restock the pipeline. Bloom has proven to be the antithesis of Dombrowski thus far. He is doing exactly what he was hired to do and if memory serves me correctly what many on this board wanted I.e. rebuild the farm. I said that he is playing the long game. Judging from the reporting out Liverpool UK.so are Henry and Werner who seem to be concentrating all of the efforts on building a super league of European Soccer clubs. I don't think building a contending Red Sox team in the short term is the first thing on their minds right now.
  24. It is all about pitching and keeping their arms healthy. Based on the roster and past history, this team is at best a 500 ball club baring major upgrades to the rotation and bullpen. 82 wins plus or minus a couple is my bet.
