  1. I have suspected for a.long time that there was something amiss in the clubhouse. While we can not know for sure what it may be.but it would not surprise me that there would be some tension between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. Judging by Blooms admission, management has no idea how to resolve it.
  2. Vaz was just voted the best defensive catcher according to OB who just announced it during tonight's game. You keep talking physical defensive metrics. What I am talking about is the mental aspects of the game. Base running hitting the cutoff man etc. They have when healthy sufficient talent to compete. Yes they could have better players but the point is they are not getting the best effort from the guys they got. There are playing dumb bad baseball at all aspects of the game, offense and defense. IMO their problem is more mental than physical. That starts with management and coaching. There is something wrong in the clubhouse
  3. Your last sentence is a red herring. The team as it is constituted is playing STUPID baseball. The guys playing the dumbest are not the worst players. Vazquez, Bogaerts Verdugo Hernandez and Hunter Renfoe have all made more than their share of boneheaded plays since the ASB
  4. Verdugo is specifically the guy who made a brain dead throw yesterday. These guys as a team are playing undisciplined sloppy baseball which is the hallmark of poorly coached low morale teams. The FO needs to get its s*** together and change that in the off-season.
  5. I see that have never coached. They have more than adequate defenders. The team lacked consistency and focus.
  6. I think what is disturbing is the sloppy play. Even players with limited skills learn to play the game the right way. This team has played stupid baseball, and lacked discipline on the field. It has shown itself to be poorly coached and not equal to the sum of its parts. If Henry expected this then he is not as smart as everyone thinks. And I for one doubt that is the case. Henry and Co better do a rethink or Fenway Park tickets will be as easy to get as those for Camden Yards.
  7. You have basically articulated my point of view as well. No matter how you look at it the team has become totally disfunctional. Everyone associated with ball club both on and off the field has some culpability for the current sorry state of affairs. Once the season ends, I just wonder whether Henry is ready to sit everyone down who is connected with baseball ops for a realistic reassessment on how this situation came to be and the way forward.
  8. While I do not live in the Tampa area and would defer to those that do, when I have gone to Rays games there, I am told by Rays fans there the biggest drawback to attendance is the location of the Trop itself. The hockey team figured it out and moved to a better part of the greater Tampa area. The Trop is a dump and located in a terrible spot.
  9. I seem to recall they had this kid called Williams who did pretty well there.
  10. While that may be true, Bloom did not ( like the Angels) go after the best pitcher available but rather the best player available which in my view is a sounder strategy than that adopted by the Angels. Revamping the organization's pitcher development is a project that is not going to be completed in three years.
  11. Given Boston's dismal record in developing major league ready pitchers in its farm system in the last 15 years it makes good sense to draft the best and most promising player available rather than target potential players by position.
  12. Because the Sox are exceeding all expectations, I have totally revamped my thinking on how Bloom will approach the trade deadline. I now believe he will not be seeking to improve any particular area but rather see what is offered. He will not part with any prospect unless what is being offered is literally someone he could not refuse. In essence he will be looking for depth that he can pickup without giving up much in return. Looking at the rotation, he has three starters waiting in the wings if need be . Sale who the Sox are obviously moving very cautiously to bring up., Tanner Houck whom they can bring up anytime they wish and Whitlock whom they can start in an emergency. Given those three Bloom will not mortgage the future to acquire a starter. First base is a position Bloom will only make a move depending what is out there and at what price. Dalbec is making steady improvement so I do not see that as a must need right now.
  13. While we are grousing about losing one out of nine, The Chapman and the Yankees just blew another save and the Mets score 6 to drop the Yankees to .500. How much longer does Boone last?
  14. Santana can not hit. Plays shoddy defense. Doesn't run the bases well. Plus he nearly collided with JD on a routine fly out to left. Why is he still in the majors?
  15. That is the way I see it.
  16. Historically, the Red Sox do not play well on the West Coast.
  17. We sometimes forget how young Devers is. 99% percent of his errors stem from poor judgment and are primarily throwing errors. Right now he is on track to be another Adrian Beltre. Within three years he could be the premier 3rd baseman in baseball. He will be playing 3rd base for as long as he wants.
  18. I also think that defensive shifting has further increased the importance of in game managerial decisions. Let's face it the increased use of analytics means coaches and managers in baseball are acting more like NFL coaches when it comes to where players are placed on the field. This placement changes with each batter.
  19. Or even worse, General managers! Who in their right mind would construct a team to play in Yankee Stadium without a left handed power hitter?
  20. I think one conclusion that we should derive from the first half of this season is that the manager in baseball is far more important to a team's success than many have wished to admit in previous seasons. Does anyone believe that Ron Roenicke could have had this team produce these results? I don't. And I have been critical of Cora in years past.
  21. The point is it is not from Mississippi It is from the New Jersey side of the Delaware River.
  22. Not to take anything away from Cora, but Ron Roeneke was an easy act to follow. He was probably one of the worst Red Sox managers in the last 50 years not named Bobby Valentine.
  23. It isn't Mississippi Mud it is from the banks of the Delaware River. Back in the day the umpires used to rub up the baseballs now I think the teams do it.
  24. I certainly agree that Santana's place on the roster is more tenuous than Marwin's but the Bosox should be able to upgrade for both at the trade deadline without busting through the lux tax or parting with any blue chip prospects.
  25. I would add unless Marwin Gonzalez and Santana turn it around I would not expect either to be on this club by the playoffs.
