  1. There is a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza!
  2. Error 404
  3. The Houston Astros will never have a strike called against them ever again! What could go wrong?
  4. You have a very "unique" understanding of the meaning of the word unanimous.
  5. Actually the slippery slope argument is a valid point regardless with you agree with it or not. But it is typical of you, you can not refute it so you try to dismiss it. Inappropriately I might add.
  6. No it isn't. Comparing how a game is played to how illnesses are treated is nonsensical and a complete exaggeration.
  7. Apples and oranges. Baseball is a sport not real life. If we really want to modernize the "game" lets automate the whole thing. Robo umps Robo players and Robo fans.
  8. Those aren't fans
  9. That is a nonsense argument. Sounds like something Nancy Pelosi would say.
  10. I did not know they held a vote. What were the results in your Riding/
  11. Have you ever umpired a game behind the plate? I guess they have been doing it all wrong for the past hundred plus years. How has this game survived.
  12. Are you suggesting the fate of humanity depends of instant replay? Talk about exaggeration.
  13. What you fail to understand is that many games are not supposed to be perfect. The beauty in the game is the human element. The arguments about blown calls for me are all part of the beauty of the game. What you advocate is an antiseptic game which will become increasingly devoid of its humanity. You might as well watch computer simulations.
  14. I agree. Baseball is a game and and a sport. It is not supposed to be perfect. Instant replay takes the spontaneity out if the game. Let the boys play. Let the umps make the calls. If they make mistakes such is life. The quest for automation is ruining sport.
  15. I think we should have robot umps so there would be no more mistakes by umps. Then we could have robot pitchers so there would be no more mistakes by pitchers. Then we could have robot fielders so there would be no more mistakes by fielders. Then we could have robot hitters so there would be no more mistakes by hitters. There game all fixed. What could go wrong. Play ball!
  16. Cashman seems to love these big ballplayers who physically should be playing tight end for the Jets or Giants. As Pete Rose says Ray Charles would not have struck out as often.
  17. I have been following this team for almost 70 years. I have seen them self destruct hundreds of times. Once bitten twice shy.
  18. I understood why Cora used Hernandez in the 9th but please my blood pressure can't take the drama. Hernandez is incapable of throwing a clean inning. Save for when you are 10 or more runs down or better still find a way to get him off the roster.
  19. Rampant pessimism is the natural steady state of the diehard Red Sox fan. Hell I am worried with a 7 run lead with two out in the 9 th inning.
  20. English is an evolving language. "It is me." was once considered improper until Winston Churchill used it. Normalcy was not a word until Harding used it. Gay had a totally different connotation a hundred years ago.
  21. I guess Thunder's teacher would.
  22. Your teacher was wrong. Very seldom is perfectly correct. The very before seldom conveys emphasis and is perfectly acceptable. Here is a famous quote from Simeon Strunsky "Famous quotes are very seldom quoted correctly" Strunsky is best remembered as a prominent editorialist for the New York Times for more than two decades. If it is good enough for the editors of the New York Times, it is certainly good enough to use on this forum.
  23. Damn right! But Bloom also is a miracle worker. He put together this collection of "lost toys"
  24. Actually I found Cora's taking out Eovaldi when he did totally predictable and consistent with the way he has been managing virtually all year. Third time through the order, a reasonably well rested bullpen, Whitlock back etc. I would have been surprised if he hadn't pulled him when he did.
  25. Right now Iggy is better defensively than Arroyo ever was. Moreover he is hitting the cover off the ball. I ride the hot hand at least until after the Yankee series. Defensive metrics are the most flawed of all the analytics especially in this case since Iggy will be playing more at second than short. Next year is next year right now the only focus should be making the playoffs. Iggy playing through the Yankee series is their best option.
