  1. Actually you missed the point i was making. The organization I was referring to was monitoring forums for trends. The trends indicated widespread customer dissatisifaction. The organization looked into why. It started a process. This is done on a regular basis. In the red sox case,fFor example we know that Henry listens to sports radio. He went on the sports hub. It is exactly the same thing. The RS FO realized wide spread fan base dissatisfaction. There has been ample discussion on the internet, on sport radio and in the published press. They learned from multiple sources the trend that a Sveum type wouldn't satisfy the fans etc. Was it it the determinent factor? I don't know for sure but I think it was a factor in their decisionmaking process. It was just one more data point that a data driven organization would use. That is why I believe Valentine was a marketing decision as well as a baseball one. They decided for business reasons they needed to go into a different direction. Business and baseball interests converged. Tha's the point.
  2. Our organization ultimately fired someone a couple years because of information gleaned through an internet forum. The Sandusky case got traction causing the PA AG to reopen the investigation because of certain inforamtion revealed in an online forum. Most high performance organiztions who follow a TQM or CQI mamangement philosphy do trend analysis as part of what's called an environmental scan. Now i don't know for fact that RS follow that model exactly but it would be generally consistent with their data driven management philosophy. Such organiztions regularly survey and monitor all media for customer reaction. Monitoring internet forums have became part of that process.
  3. It was posted before. It was during an ESPN game broadcast, I believe a reporter asked Crawford about it later.
  4. It is marketing gentleman. Every high performance organization samples its market, especially internet activity today. They monitor all media. That is the smart thing to do. It about attitude and trends not necessarily about an individual opinion.
  5. Yup that's what they say down here which is both Phillies/Orioles country.
  6. Hiring Bobby V wasn't just a baseball move it was a marketing one as well. Based on published reports , Lucchino et al were very concerned about fan reaction to the collapse. They monitor radio, the press aand yes these boards to guage fan reaction. They know their fan base was angry. That's why they embarked on the housecleaning. Sveum was too much like Francona. There are indications that they were concerned that a Sveum and Lamont type wouldn't satisfy the fans who wanted things to change after the team quit on a player friendly manager.
  7. Edes is just reporting what I think a lot of objective observers saw. Bard has the stuff but not the temperment to close. I think the Red Sox baseball people see that too.
  8. Sorry I left out I left out that Edes thought if they don't give Bard an opportunity to start he'd continue as a set up guy. The part of Edes comment that got me was he contradicted Cherington about Bard as a possible closer. One must presume that Bobby V and his pitchin coach (Bob Abudaca be my guess) will have some input on that question.
  9. During the Edes interview today he said: No one in RS FO really thinks Bard has it in him to close. Reddick and Kalish are possible but the Sox arel looking for a better RF alternative Aceves will be given a shot at starting.
  10. I have seen a couple of Mexican league baseball games on tv but never in person. How are they drawing at the gate these days
  11. Why? Where is written that the manager should be hired two levels above. GM is not an entryu level position. Depends on the club and the GM. That being said I agree that they didn't spell it out in advance. They all screwed up. All four, Ben Larry, Tom and John. They strung it out to give Ben cover and win back some street creds with his peers and the public. But everyone who knew anything saw through what they were doing. That's the bottom line.
  12. Thank you Finally something we can agree upon.
  13. It was not incorrect. You don't know half of what you think about sabermetrics. You dfidn't know who Tango was until I mentioned in my post. i am still waiting for you to answer my queestions on the subject. You have had time to reasearch the subject. For example i am itnterested on your observations on Markhov chains. I amy learn something. Although not from you, since you are as the say in Texas "All hat and no steer."
  14. Actually it is yoiu who can't take the heat since most of what you post is ill informed not well reasoned and quite frankly shows a very limited understanding of the game. Specualtion it may be but informed ones based on years of experience and a lot of reading.
  15. Intelligent knowledgeable and experienced observers can draw reasonable deductions about the inner workers of any organization by judging both their public actions and their public statements. This is done not only in baseball but within any professional community. Specifically regarding the Red Sox, tthe club operates in one of the most pervasive media sports media environments in baseball. You have two major metro newspapers, two cable sports channels four major broadcast TV stations several sports radio stations as well countless regional media outlets from Hartford Conn to Portland Me all covering the club daily.. People talk! Given this environment it is not that difficult for savy reporters ranging from Gammons, Ryan, Macadams, Buckley etc etc.to figure out and pass to those of us who follow this club intensely the inner workings of this club sufficiently to draw the intelligent conclusions that we do. While it may not reach the level of ontological certitude demanded by some, it is sufficient for the purposes of a baseball forum.
  16. Pumpsie just said what i have been telling you for the past few weeks.
  17. No he is the organ grinder's monkey.
  18. That was my point. i agree with Shaughnessy et al get a pair and hire the guy already.
