  1. Peer pressure and pride are really the only ways.
  2. It's up to Crawford to prove himself. He stunk most of last season. His defensive play in left field was awful. He largely got a pass from the press. Critcism of his batting stance is fair and not personal. Bobby V as an ESPN analyst was merely saying what most knowledgeable baseball people were thinking. Crawford is obviously sensitive about it. So it is reasonable to conclude he has been told this before. But he is stubborn and won't change. Ok let's see. That being said if he doesn't man up and get off to a good start he'll be run out town just like Renteria. I don't think Crawford can handle the scrutiny of the Boston market. And that isn't Bobby V 's fault. Francona covered for these players and look where it got him. That's why the change.
  3. MLB radio reported the same. Though they didn't think Sox had the prospects to make a mega deal possible.
  4. Lavarnway is a smart kid who would benefit more from playing now in the majors than another year in tripleA IMHO
  5. Actually you have it backwards, how can the front office not know as much as we do!
  6. Yes in the wrong direction as usual! When we speak of an insiders game we refer to who gets hired. When one looks from the outside in, one's can surmise why moves are made based on overt factors including but not limited to what is being said publically. This is done all the time in a variety of activities from business, to politics and to other sports. While I agree it isn't 100% accurate, it is interesting and useful nonetheless.
  7. Several years ago, I had a lengthy conversation with a high school and college classmate who had a five year or so career with several major league clubs. He basically said the same thing as you did. I'll never forget the stories he told of why some guys stay up and other get sent down or traded. It often has more to do with who is sleeping with whose wife then play on the field. He made it clear that organized ball is an insider's game, especially in the front office.
  8. "you know more than the front office" Virtually everyone in RSN believes they know more than the front office. It's our birthright.
  9. I saw the film, he held the ball too long!
  10. Why does 2012 have to be better? I looking forward to the new year also. There is no contradiction in that.
  11. Several us post on several sites. I post on four sites. I do so because I love the game and devour information about it.
  12. People express themselves differently. I guess I have become more tolerant with age.
  13. Come on over and see for yourself!
  14. Conjecture is what the Hot Stove is all about. If you don't like what we post or think you can either disagre or ignore. But I at least will continue to post what I think if nothing else because lively discussion about baseball is enjoyable. Who know we ll may learn something in the process. It is better than all posting only consensus opinions.
  15. If not this year that would make three years in a row. BTW, I share Muggah and Fred's view that ownership is trimming its sails and reducing longterm commitiments. That is a fact. What it means is open to debate. We three aren't the only ones who believe ownership is re assessing its long term position.
  16. "Tek knows how to manage the pitching staff. " Didn't help when they needed it in September. Besides Tek only cuaght one guy. Time for someone else to learn the ropes. Time for both the Red Sox and Varitek to move on.
