  1. I agree that Cherries strategy seems to be to have the most not necessarilty the best pitchers under contract, hoping someone will be a diamond in the rough. The problem with Padilla is this guy has no self control. He has the reputation of being a clubhouse cancer. I just don't see how this is a prudent move given where the Sox are coming from with clubhouse issues.
  2. The only logical explanation for the Sox behavior (I don't buy the Lux Tax nonsense) is that JH et al now recognize how much of a hole Epstein put them with Crawford, Lackey et al and they are afraid to make any major moves until they figure out a long term strategy. For the time doing nothing is their plan. I am sad to say.
  3. While I understood the Bedard move at the time., I recall Baltimore analyst Jim Palmer ridiculed it. Bedard is the classic example of the player who is incapable of playing for a contender. He is afraid. That was Palmer's point. He was right.
  4. From what I read that translates into only 400k in lux tax. The real problem is next year.
  5. Tony Mazz made an excellent point about what is most disturbing about this whole mess. In the past the Red Sox were more than willing to sign a pitcher to a one year deal. Now no! Why not! One year deals have very little impact on the lux tax issue next year when it really bites.
  6. That is more or less what has been discussed. I heard it first on MLB radio about two weeks ago. Forgot who proposed it there.
  7. I haven't kept up with what the Braves have done but they need infielders and hitting Chipper is getting old. They have 7 starters more or less I had thought a direct deal with either Lowrie or Scutoro but since Lowrie is gone that is out. Youk is possible now but probably only in a three way deal unless Chipper is not able to play this year. He will be 40.The Braves really need a SS. I had thought Marlins Red Sox Braves but Hanley says he'll now play third. The Braves seem set at 1st.
  8. I have posted over the past few weeks that I thought the Braves and Red Sox would be natural trade partners either directly or as part of a three way deal involving Youk. While we have heard nothing, I still have hope. I still think Youk is more valuable as trade bait than anything else.
  9. That's what I find maddening about Tek . It is a distraction that sets back attempts to move on from the llast year's debacle.
  10. The news about Tek is infuriating but expected, The news about theYankees is depressing and far more serious.
  11. I agree I think JH is all about the deal. If another opportunity like Liverpool or his move getting the Red Sox when the franchise was in turmoil back in 03 arises he'll jump at it! IMO
  12. I wasn't suggesting that we should have made Mariners an offer although it would have been nice. What the issue is the Yankees just made a significant improvement to their rotation and if the Kuroda deal is true then even more so and Ben not only hasn't made a countermove but is futzing around with mariginal pitchers and others with severe baggage.
  13. The Yanks also just got Michael Pineda from the Mariners, WTF is Ben doing?
  14. The point is Tek will never get better just older, slower etc.
  15. That makes two while Ben is fooling around with Dumpster diving and rearching psych wards
  16. Shop is at 41% according to the stats I just looked up not 45%, Sorry about that should have checked first
  17. I haven't looked up the numbers but I think Shop was around 45%
  18. The operative word here is "formal" According to an earlier report which is consistent with this tweet, the Red Sox have made it clear that Jason would only make the club if either Shop or Salty got injured. Nvertheless tis isn't good. Why can't the Red Sox simply move on. They don't need this distraction. Meanwhile while Ben is futzing around the Yankees just pick up a frontline starter from the Mariners
  19. Moreover how does this move help unite the team and bring closure to the 2011 season, so everone can move on.
  20. When will this stop. If Varitek has no chance of making the team unless Salty or Shop get injured ( as was also reported on CSNE) why do this? I think it is unfair to everyone to prolong this agony. The humane thing to evryone is to end this false sense of hope.
