Well before we forget....Blake is a terrible defensive catcher. They converted him during the tail end of the period when MLB was desperate for catchers and they were trying to convert anybody that did not have a solid position in the field. Sort of makes you wonder if they would have tried Devers there if he came along at the tail end of that same period, because they were trying everybody and Devers sure is no 3rd baseman yet.
But that is neither here nor there. What they are doing with Blake makes no sense at all. He is not worse than JD in LF, probably not worse than JD in RF. Probably worse than Devers at 3rd although that is hard to imagine lately. But if they are not able to find him AB's AT ANY POSITION during a period where they seem to find every tom dick and larry reason under the sun to rest guys, it says to me they flat don't like him but very likely asked too much in return for him when teams came calling after the Spring he put together. Blake probably knows that is what happened and feels like he got screwed again.
However, it is the organization's responsibility to try to make the best of what looks like a bad situation with Blake even if that means taking little in return for him and opening the spot for somebody they like better. It is their team and their organization. How does it make sense to do this with a player in their organization that Oh by the way happens to be on their 25 man. It is hard to imagine the Sox like anybody less than they appear to like Blake!
