    I meant another prospect that didn't work out for whatever reason. Kalish another one, and the list is probably endless. Make the MLB at decent level for at least say 5 years is tough.

    Another prospect that did not work out. Probably for each consolidated prospect, out there are 20 high rated prospects, reason why FAs are usually better bets.

    Bard was another. I like prospects and all but how many of them even high rated end up in bush leagues/minors or at very best playing at mediocre MLB level? I think that coaches have to be cautious and take young kids' careers carefully. Hopefully Betts and XB are for real as well.

    This has been my concern all along. As you said, by the trade deadline it could be too late. Big IFS surround us mostly at pitching.

    I would like to live someday the spring training experience in FM. This year at least I'm going to be in Boston for the first time and for the first two games of the season at Fenway park. Probably next year I'll try to make my trip to FM.

    I just watched images of NYY and BOS and seems like it is getting tough. Hopefully everything is oks with you and your family my friend. Also, think about it, you'll be very soon in Fort Myers.

    Somehow I saw on Ranaudo some kind of potential. I even had more hopes on him and Kelly than I had in the combo they signed. At least he is from the farm, he is undercontrol and cheap. I do not know anything about this guy Ross. Hopefully I'm assessing this wrongly.

    Well IMO only a handful can close with consistency and durability because you do not only need good stuff but temper and balls as well. A lot of pressure is out there when the last inning comes around specially against tough line ups and close games. IMO closers are the master pieces in rosters, since they guarantee a win if you are winning after 8 innings, and could make the difference when you want to win it all... look at Koji and Pap, but that's me .

    As closer? Look at Andrew Miller or Tazawa... They are arguably two of the best set up guys around these days, but can they close?

    Well... if you take the saves out of the equation and pretend that he pitched in the 6th for a losing team I probably will have another argument. Koji is a great player Pal. My point all along is that you just can't compare Koji with Pap. since the sample size and roles at the time thats all.

    Well if you had read the whole story you would have noticed that I said that intangibles and subjective situations were considered as well in order to make my picks.

    Thing is that at the time you already had 6 Y of sample size when the Phyllis made the offer... the offer was based on a decent sample size, and it told them (Phyllis) 2 things: Durability and consistency. In the end... Papelbon has performed as expected for the Phillies thus far. He has earned his pay check.

    Plus they are paying what we were paying in 2011, and I'm not even considering the inflation. As I said, if the discount rate were 10%, the NPV at the time would look like a bargain to me considering how he has performed thus far.... as you said he is still performing to the levels that he did when he was in Boston.

    Sorry Pal, 2010-2012 is a very small sample size when you put it together with "history of baseball" in the same sentence. Also he did not have a closer role. He had very few closing appearances.

    Geez... I already made my case of why they are not comparable. Go and read it. After that and if you still want to compare two guys with a different sample size and different roles during that time, be my guest. Also, Not that good, wonder what is good to you?

    Overvalue my intelligence? haha WTF. I'm not claiming to be more or less intelligent at all haha. All I'm saying all along is that they can be easy replaced. As I said before, a decent MBA professional can run any enterprise regardless the size or industry included a MLB team. On the other hand players are not that easy to replace, specially the good ones.
