    LOL! Another injury prone arm. Well that's going to be the strategy, a bunch of low risk/high reward arms.

    Probably I'm a little bit more greedy my friend. I would have signed Lester and Shields. I would have liked as well to see Miley and Kelly with less pressure at 3/4 roles, while we prove some of our prospects in the depth side. That would have been my approach even if that would have meant not signing Panda and HR but you already had Cespedes in this scenario. Anyways... Let's see how this work out.

    Sure, probably he is not going to be a 5.0 ERA anymore but I do not see a 3.0 ERA either. My bet as I said is around 4.0.

    I think it was fluke year. 2009-2013 tells me more about the kind of pitcher he really is. Sure, he is young and could improve but I do not see a 3.4 ERA pitcher at all going forward. At very best around 4.0.

    I do not like Porcello at all. I think Miley and Kelly at No. 3/4 roles are oks to me. Masterson and Buch are huge ?s in my book, nothing to rely on... and that's it. They will call me negative and all but sorry this is how I really feel!

    Agree. We all want the Red Sox win this season. We only disagree about the strategy. While some feel ok going forward with this pitching staff, some of us do not. I see all the same mistakes we had in 2011, 2012 and 2014 regarding pitching but this year it is even more marked IMO. Hopefully I'm wrong and this pitching staff shows "El do de Pecho" haha.

    A couple of good arms wouldn't hurt anybody mostly to one of the highest payrolls in baseball, problem is and has been the strategy/distribution of the payroll.

    I think they thought Lester was a guaranteed addition. It was not. They shitted the bed, so they had to sign this combo in order to try compense that mistake since they were not going to Scherzer and apparently neither for Shields.

    TB do not have money. We have. You have that leverage and you are not using it at pitching. As I said, the mix is the prudent way to go, and will give you more chances to succeed.

    No, just the opposite. I think that while we haven't spent big bucks in pitching probably since Lackey (and which have been saying in recent years) they have assembled the worst version following that logic, fragile pitching staffs and strong O teams on paper.

    I do not like at all that logic/strategy. While they are putting all their chips on Offense, the pitching looks like very fragile.

    I think I saw at ESPNBoston.com 88 W. I perfectly understand your point, but based on 2011, 2012 and 2014 when we didn't make the POs with better pitching staffs on paper entering into a new season, this is the worst rotation I ever seen at least in the last 10 Y, but again that's me.

    When we face true #1 and Solid #2 we are going to struggle to match those games. Yeah, the upside is there but the ?s and injury prone issues probably are bigger, in the way I see the thing.

    Honestly, I don't see them making something remotely close to 20 M/Y when they hit the FA (these days money value; Net Future Value) I'm just asking for 2 solid/proven arms followed by 3/4 tier pitchers and a couple of prospects in your depth side. Is it too much to ask for a team which has one of the highest payrolls in baseball? Haha

    I'm not against to all high/long contracts. I think each potential contract is a particular case. BTW welcome to talksox Ogden.

    Not sure but should he gain some weight or something?... Probably his body shape is not helping him to stay healthy. It always has been a mystery to me what is going on with this guy regarding his physical condition.

    Sure but even with strong farm systems rich teams always will command the league in the long run. Also as Pal said, our farm system has not been good in recent years. Hopefully and at least Betts and XB become realities for us.

    It is fine to be optimistic and all but come on LOL. Sorry but this is the worst rotation I ever seen entering into a season, but that's me.

    Thing is that you just can not have a 9 all-star lineup and 5 cy young rotation, and those "nobodys" sometimes round very well a team while you give some AB/innings to your prospects. The mix is the prudent way to go.

    ... And probably is not that different in the majority of the teams. I think that even play only 1 game in the majors is a loooooooong shot.

    Not all FAs are attached to high/long contracts. Actually only a few command high/long contracts.
