  1. What would have been your approach last offseason regarding pitching.? Could you tell me the names you had in mind?
  2. It matters pal. Can't speak for Ted but I'm oks continuing debating about this topic, nothing more and nothing less. To me it is interesting and polemic. Problem is people starting s*** up, if they do not like this thread, out there are 20000 more.
  3. Like signing guys like Shields and Lester, No 1 types and durable and who wouldnt't hurt our payroll. I have said that over and over again. Then... If they wanted to experiment at the 3-5 spots as they did with guys like Porcello, Miley, etc., I would call it great offseason.
  4. I haven't predicted failures all the time. Actually aside that collapse and this mess, I had been very optimistic about the team.
  5. I have agreed an disagreed with several posters regarding this topic, and IMO the discussion has been very interesting and polemic, but always has been about baseball. One thing is what I think about the current pitching (trying to be objective and realistic as the call I did in the offseason regarding our rotation which unfoutunatly is turning into a reality ), and another very different thing is what I wish/disire/hope regarding the team, specially at pitching.
  6. I remember when some of us predicted the pitching collapse by August in 2011, and kind of the same happened LOL!. Hopefully if this mess continues, they probably will change the strategy regarding pitching, and bring true solid arms.
  7. Read the last 5 pages and figure out how and who started this s*** up. Unfortunately this is how this thread has been at times, furthermore, unfortunately this is how this board has been at times. While some talk about baseball, the same old posters start the s*** up storm. Unfortunately some posters can't handle criticism against the team. If they can't handle criticism, they shall not read this thread. If the Red Sox ends up posting the worst numbers in the last 10 Y or something close as I predicted regarding pitching, it will be a realistic call, and not a pessimist one, as some have called.
  8. MVP is getting sensitive... again. You should control your hormones. Chill man.
  9. Naaah, someone who disagrees with you is automatically a whinner.
  10. We are going to win this. All my chips in.
  11. LOL horrible gramar. My apologize.
  12. Quoting FG, League-average WAR rates vary. An average full-time position player is worth about 2 WAR, while average bench players contribute much less (typically between 0 and 1 WAR). Average starting pitchers also are worth around 2 WAR, while relief pitchers are considered superb if they crack +1 WAR. For position players and starting pitchers, here is a good rule-of-thumb chart: Scrub 0-1 WAR Role Player 1-2 WAR Solid Starter 2-3 WAR Good Player 3-4 WAR All-Star 4-5 WAR Superstar 5-6 WAR MVP 6+ WAR In my book players just above average are not No. 2s by any means. In other words, players around 2.5 WAR are closer to avg pitchers (2 WAR), than very good pitchers 4+ WAR (No 1.). Anyways, if you think that Porcello is already a No. 2, it's ok, but IMO your standards are a bit low.
  13. Wonder what are questions JH might be doing to his FO.
  14. Again, it's not my definition Kim., it's FG's. Sure, No. 1s and No. 2 do not grow in trees, but out there year after year are plenty via trade/FA ( like last year) and for teams like the RS who has resources, there's no excuses. The answer is not there Kim. This team bet a lot in a very good offense "on paper" (I still think it is) but risked a lot in a very weak pitching staff (IMO) instead of balancing the team with a better pitching even if that had meant not signing Panda and/or HR and/or the cubans. Some agreed with that strategy some not, we'll see how this ends up, though.
  15. ERA estimators work fine in the long run, not that good in the short, specially since the guys behind the pitcher in the short run (ex. current season) will always be there for good or for bad. Also you have to take era estimators with a grain of salt since first off it is recommendable to evaluate several era estimators and see which one fits better for a certain pitcher. The answer is not at era estimators. Our situation is pretty simple actually, the talent out there is not good enough to turn the ship around, we need to do something and quickly or things could take out of the hands very early.
  16. Couldn't catch the game. Seems like pitching still not good but now the offense seems to be anemic. I would call it the perfect storm.
  17. It's going to be hard to win this but there's still time.
  18. 1. It's not about how many but the number. 2. There's a reason FG puts this chart, the same guys who calculate WAR every year (it is not my chart LOL!) . Sure year after year every single chart for every single metric change, but in this case, this represent pretty well a large sample to judge a player in terms of WAR, reason why it is called a good rule of thumb. If you are going to base a profile on a short sample and/or number of pitchers achieving certain number, I don't think you will find the answer you are looking for. This is why I think you are the only one around here who thinks that he is already a No. 2.
  19. I could say the same in almost every thread but I don't take it that serious. Also that comment is related to this game. I do not see a big deal spud.
  20. Not sure, didn't bet in that game. My guess it was around -150 for NY.
  21. Did the comment bother you?
  22. Overs should be a safe bet, but I need to see the line. Probably it will be around 10.
  23. Well, if this keeps going this way, Offesen and pitching sucking, there will be one and only one responsible for this mess; the one who assembled the team and probably the strategy specially regarding pitching will change going forward.
  24. After his TJ and 2013 performance, I said, at least we are going to get a couple of good years from Lacke after all those bad years here. Then he was traded and I said Whata f***? It's funny, I miss Lackey these days. haha.
  25. I'm going to quote some from my pal A700; a discussion with him is considered whining, bitching, make no sense, reading comp problems, etc. etc. etc... if you disagree with him. He is always obnoxious and belligerent, so be careful.
