  1. i think he's covered the red sox for so long from the perspective of a yankees fan that he's having trouble just turning it off now
  2. can't afford/hal doens't pay to pay that much whatever you call it, it doesn't make financial sense for them
  3. pete abraham is a d-bag
  4. the red sox placed beckett, lackey and delcarmen on waivers. it's highly unlikely that they trade or release the first two but they might be able to work out a deal for delcarmen who they are likley to non-tender at the end of the year anyways
  5. cashman wanted to sign damon. hal steibrenner told him he had to tighten the budget and cashman was forced to sign randy winn instead
  6. they couldn't afford to spend more than $2 million to sign damon last year. what makes you think they can afford to spend $40+ million to sign lee and crawford? they have other holes to fill at shortstop, dh, the rotation, the bench and their bullpen
  7. new york can't afford to get both lee and crawford, they can barely afford to sign lee
  8. yeah, that's inexcusable from the ump. even if it wasn't a big game for a team that's fighting for a playoff spot, umps can't just go around tossing players for no reason
  9. hal steinbrenner, the guy in charge of the yankees spending wouldn't even let cashman spend $3 million to sign johnny damon last offseason. what makes you think he's going to increase payroll by 40 million?
  10. i know there's only like a 5% chance that jeter or rivera don't work out a deal with the yankees but whenever one of the dynasty yankees reach free agency i get excited about the possibility that something bad happens in contract negotations and they get offended and sign with a different team. it's annoying to hear yankees fans complain about how we treat our stars so badly and we run them out of town when they're past their prime when really we're just making good business decisions
  11. i think pretty much everyone here is come to grips with the fact that we're not going to make the playoffs barring some kind of miracle. but i don't think anyone's ready to write off the season and stop watching. we love this team even if they don't make the playoffs
  12. i agree with you guys. i think they realized that while they had a good team on paper, not even the best regular season teams in the history of baseball could make up this much ground if half of their lineup went on the disabled list and their #2 and #3 starter going into the year were having the worst years of their career
  13. i think it's going to take more than just one move. 4 members of our lineup are on the disabled list and john lackey and josh beckett are both having the worst years of their career under those same circumstances, i don't think the 1998 yankees could make up this many games
  14. a700, do you think it's a fair statement to say that you're also one of the snarkier posters on the site?
  15. well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black
  16. and there it is. i knew you were going to complain that we didn't get damon not to burst your bubble but nava's ops is .050 points better and while he was driving in the go-ahead runs in this afternoon's game damon was busy going 0-6 in a one run loss
  17. what does it matter? you're officially going to give up on the season when we don't sweep tampa this weekend anyways
  18. you're the john sterling of talk sox
