  1. that depends on how liberally you define "fighting for a playoff berth". but if we had a bullpen the caliber of the yankees this year, i beyond a doubt think that we would still be in third place if you look at the war values of rivera, chamberlain, robertson, wood, logan, albaladejo, melancon, aceves, marte, park and gaudin, they add up to 3 wins not 7
  2. exactly. a700 complains that we make bad free agent signings, yet he's convinced that we should keep papelbon even though he's guaranteed to make something like $12 million next year. if papelbon was a free agent, would that be a good contract? (to save time, that is rhetorical)
  3. look up some arbitration cases. that's not how it works in real life
  4. that's not how arbitration works
  5. why do you keep talking about things going in my ass? this isn't a san francisco bath house
  6. i don't think anyone disagrees that our bullpen was bad. i'm sure it will be addressed in the offseason
  7. this sucks. where are the round card models?
  8. because the market price for what papelbon provides is less than what he would make in arbitration. hence why most people think we will trade him
  9. i don't either. go back and read what i said
  10. i would much rather have any of the guys i listed for next year than watch papelbon continue to decline for $12 million. i think it's pretty clear that there are guys out there who are better than papelbon and would cost $12 million so i'll ask again. do you care to retract your statement that it's not possible to improve the bullpen if we trade papelbon?
  11. a700, at any point in this thread did i suggest that there's no need to improve the bullpen next year, or did you just pull that out of your ass?
  12. i didn't guess at that amount, that's what advertising specialists said it costs http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/04/25/sox_have_dice_k_but_rivals_reaping_ad_dollars/ needless to say, the red sox made a decent chunk of cash off marketing related to daisuke that they didn't have to share with the other 29 teams
