  1. Tanner Scheppers sounds like the name of a cheap alcoholic drink. "I'll have a Tanner Scheppers on the rocks. Hold the umbrella."
  2. Ortiz wanted certainty beyond this year, that's why he was so fixated on getting it done now or (at the latest) by the AS break. If that situation you described were to unfold, I could see Ortiz feeling "disrespected" (millionaire problems, never will understand them...), rejecting the offer and then signing with the Yankees out of spite (the only team I could realistically see throwing caution to the wind as far as signing Q.O. players at that age, as demonstrated with Beltran) or, worst case scenario he waits until after the draft and signs with the highest bidder. Either way, the Sox would not only look bad, but would get hosed either through no draft compensation or having to see the face of their franchise 19 times during the regular season. In any event, it's a moot point though. Papi got his security, Sox brass looks good, and everyone is happy. Now all that's left is to see what those shiny new WS rings look like!
  3. Wow, took you 24 hours to come up with a comeback? Haha, dumbass.
  4. Well regardless of how this series plays out, we got one more win than the Yankees got vs this team on the same stage last year lololololololololololol
  5. Your farm system sucks, your team is old, and you missed the playoffs. Stop stating the obvious and coming off like you have something meaningful to contribute. Don't you have some uhaul boxes to unpack? Go away troll.
  6. I want to kick Oswaldo Arcia in the skull.
  7. These kind of games annoy me to no end. f***ing s*** stain, nobody, small market teams that dont even finish with a winning record have NO BUSINESS vulturing wins from us!! NONE!!! I would've been fine if we had this kind of game after sucking the first month (which many people thought would happen before the season started) but don't tease me with success and then put this steaming pile of s*** in front of me!!
  8. WMB needs to get his head out of his ass, we need to call up Lavarnway and give Saltala-suckia the boot. He's more or less Russell Branyan wearing a catcher's mask. Hell, I bet Branyan could play better D or call a better game than this goober.
  9. For some reason (and I don't have numbers in front of me to refute/support this notion) I feel like now that we finally have some semblance of a decent pitching staff/bullpen, our offense is not as potent as it was in previous seasons. I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too. ********.
  10. Even though this may have been said in the game thread (I don't know since I was working), I'm gonna start a thread on it anyway. After his performance in tonight's game (granted as a DH), I REALLY think Ciriaco should get a shot at SS full time over "Stone hands" Aviles. He's way faster than Aviles, leading to more havoc on the basepaths with Ellsbury and (when he's on) Crawford for opposing pitchers. And even though it's a small sample (and I don't have stats to back my case up), the eyes tell me that he's a better fieder than Aviles. He's young, he's hungry, and he's electric. If the Sox only make ONE move before the deadline/heading in to August, please let it be this one.
  11. I think he's opposed to your proposal because we'd be trading a guy who (outside of this year and late August/all of September) has proven he can pitch to some degree of success in the AL East along with a prospect who has a ceiling of a #2 pitcher for a pitcher with anxiety issues that would be exacerbated by the Boston market/media, who would also require ANOTHER huge contract since the FO would not give up significant pieces for a 2 month rental. Or maybe he doesn't like pitchers whose names are Zach.
  12. Much ado about nothing.
  13. Call me crazy, but (given the right circumstances) I'd do that deal in a heartbeat and here's why: -If we were in fact that far out of the playoff race like Jacko said, I would be all for making trades that would help us next season and beyond. This trade would qualify as such. -Regardless of whether Betances and Banuelos are overrated or not, we're not exactly flush with top-tier pitching prospects (save Barnes and to an extent Ranaudo), especially in the AAA level. My point being if you are presented with an oppurtunity to acquire two pitching prospect lottery tickets in exchange for 2-3 months of a DH who is in his mid 30's, you do it. -Another thing to consider would be whether or not Ortiz even produces. For all we now, he could be shell shocked by the trade and end up hitting .220 or so during his entire stay with the Yankees. If this scenario did indeed play out, he would likely head to free agency as a 'Type A' (as a result of his stats prior to the trade). In this case Cashman would likely decline to offer Ortiz arbitration after seeing how it played out with us this past year, coupled with the club's desire to TRY (key word) to get at or below the salary cap to qualify for the benefits set to kick in in a few years. -Following this, we could simply approach Ortiz with a 2 yr offer and either bring him back and get the Ortiz of old PLUS two pitching prospects or not sign him at all and appease the die hards and pink hats alike by saying "We tried." So yeah, I'd do it.
  14. Thread title pretty much sums it up. Article discusses how he strayed from his philosophy in the later stages of his Red Sox tenure, emphasizing the actions taken in the 2009-2010 offseason. http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/8049278/theo-epstein-admits-errors-late-boston-red-sox-tenure
  15. No. Right now he is at the airport waiting for his 2:00 flight. Once he gets home, he'll take a nice nap, and THEN he'll organize the papers.
  16. Stop! Miller Time!!
  17. That trade scenario actually doesn't sound that bad. The only guy I would be hesitant to part with would be Ranaudo and to a lesser extent, Lavarnway. Everyone else is a long ways off in terms of playing in the bigs or is of little use to us now (i.e. Kalish since we currently have Reddick). If there were a way to substitute Ranudo and Lavarnway with other prospects, I'd do that combo-deal in a heartbeat.
  18. Since I haven't seen a thread about him, I thought I'd start one. I'm really curious about this guy. I don't know a whole lot about him, so maybe someone can shed some light on him as a player. I have a couple of questions: 1) Even though he is a CF by trade, could he play RF (more specifically, at Fenway)? 2) How is he in terms of plate discipline? 3) Which current MLB player does he compare to? Any and all info on this guy would be appreciated. Thanks.
  19. Apparently Jair Jurrjens is available: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/braves-open-to-trading-jurrjens-prado.html Compared to Felix Hernandez, the asking price for Jair would be a lot more palatable.
  20. Since when have Crawford and Salty become "baggage?" Salty was a pretty good offensive catcher who cost next to nothing and everyone assumes that the Crawford we saw this year is going to be the one we see for the duration of the contract. Sheesh...
  21. What I meant was, Garza is the Charizard while Brett Jackson is a Blastoise. Epstein is an Alakazam, which is WAY more rarer!
  22. Cubs FO is being a bunch of faggots. Their organization is s*** and they should be thanking us for even giving them the privilege to negotiate. Dealing with them is like trying to haggle with a poor, fat kid who has a holographic Charizard and that's it. They'll never be able to get another holo card again but they're being asswipes. f***.
