  1. IMO, the number one priority this offseason (after signing Papelbon) should be moving Lackey come hell or high water. He's a cancer to this team and has completely fallen out of favor with The Nation. I read an interesting article on overthemonster listing different bad contracts we could possibly swap with Lackey's. http://www.overthemonster.com/2011/10/17/2495636/bad-contract-swap-meet Personally, I like swapping for Santana or Figgins. We'd most likely have to kick in a B or C prospect for Santana, but it would be worth it in my view.
  2. f***. Somebody in this organization needs to be punched in the face this offseason..
  3. If you have a guy who can play somewhat in the infield, why not let him? It would give Gonzo a day off once in a while. Granted, his defense not the best but it's better than what Papi offers. Plus, the White Sox are doing it to a degree with Konerko/Dunn.
  4. Oh, a sarcastic post... How refreshing....:thumbdown
  5. First of all, how can anybody assume that Fielder is going to be showing signs of a decline anytime soon? He's 28 years old and he can crush the ball. By that merit, maybe we should start to worry about Gonzo since he is 29. But we don't, because we know he'll be good for the entirety of the contract he signed. So why should we worry about Fielder? And for what it's worth, Ortiz and Prince have nearly identical body types and so far, Ortiz has shown that "big" guys can still hit for many years. I only suggested replacing Ortiz based on age and the fact that Fielder has and can play in the infield. When he is 33-34, then we could convert him to a full time DH. Or, we could press our luck by bringing back Ortiz and risk having a Posada-gate.
  6. I'm not sure if this was mentioned or discussed in an earlier thread, but what are everyone's thoughts on Prince Fielder? More specifically, would you want him on this team? Personally, I'd love to pursue him on the offseason. Ortiz is in his late 30s and we should try to get some value from him while we still can seeing as how he is very likely to achieve Type A FA status. Fielder is younger and would provide even MORE firepower for our potent lineup, which would mask our deficienies in terms of runs allowed. Plus, Fielder can actually be serviceable at 1B should we play in an NL park and could play 1B twice a week to keep Agon fresh. Here is a list of reasons for why each MLB shouldn't pursue Fielder: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/why-your-team-wont-sign-prince-fielder.html Although the reason for us not pursuing him seems legit, it's pretty weak compared to the reasons for other ballclubs (i.e. Yankees, Tampa, LA, etc). Of all the teams mentioned that seem to have a reasonable shot at him, they all suck (save Milwaukee). If Prince wanted to make money AND win a WS, there would be no other competition seeing as how the Yankees have Jesus and want to keep the DH spot open for A Rod as he gets older. What say you?
  7. Umm..it's a four game series dude. We got one more tomorrow. But otherwise, I agree. WIN FOR TIM!!!!
  8. I guess that suspension steeming from the "vs Verlander" game kicked in. Sucks too 'cause lord knows we need as many opportunities as we can get to extend our lead.
  9. We have to make a legit run at CC. Although many assume it is a foregone conclusion he will return to NY, there are a number of reasons why he should go to Boston aside from money and a legitimate chance at another world series ring: 1) Our team is younger 2) Better defense 3) We have one of the best game callers in Varitek and Salty is young and has a high ceiling. 4) There is more stability and talent in our rotation 1-4 (Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, and Lackey) vs theirs (Nova, Burnett, Hughes, and a ? since Garcia and Colon are up there in age). 5) Tito is one of, if not, the best player-friendly managers in the game. 6) Fan base is just as, if not more passionate than NY. 7) Tying into #4, he would possibly buy into the idea of becoming a part an all-ace pitching staff after seeing the success of Philly. 8) Would not have to move his family (if he chose) due to the close proximity of Boston relative to NY. Many intangibles working in our favor...
  10. If CC opts out, we HAVE to get him.
  11. Wow. A team that has sucked for 3 straight years is about to mortgage the future for a shot in a fluke season. I guarantee that 2 years from now they'll be looking to unload him much like Lee and Sabathia.
  12. Dear Theo, I would like either Hiroki Kuroda or Matt Garza "Good Pitching Garza" for my trade deadline gift. Thank you.
  13. At this point, I would have more faith in Dice-K if he were to pitch RIGHT NOW without ample recovery from TJ surgery than Miller.
  14. Unfortunately, baseball does not utilize common sense. Rather than award homefield to the team with the better record, they award it to the league whose team wins the annual company picnic game.:thumbdown
  15. If we could come up with a package that the Dodgers liked and were granted permission to convince Kuroda to waive his no trade clause, that would be a good deal.
  16. I say we go all out for Jimenez. Daisuke is finished as a Sox (not that I liked him anyway), Weiland clearly isn't ready for the bigs just yet, Doubront has been up and down performance-wise, and the reality is that Miller will never pan out. I credit Theo for taking a chance on the kid, but the only thing keeping him relevant is his college credentials and high draft spot. He's walked 9 batters the past two starts and has zero strikeouts. DFA him and either option him back to AAA or move on. If we could have a staff that matches up to what Philly has coupled with our offense, nobody could touch us. Get Jimenez and Beltran and call it a trade deadline.
  17. Theo, this is a sign. GET BELTRAN!!!!! JD Drew is not in a slump, he is done. Swallow your pride and DFA his ass.
  18. I really hope that tweak doesn't f*** with Beckett heading into Tampa...
  19. Seeing as how Carlos could be acquire for nothing in a trade, what sort of package would we have to come up with to land Garza (if that is fact who the FO is targeting)? Would Doubront be a good starting point?
  20. If this article has any hint of truth to it, don't know how worthwhile it would be to pursue a trade. The Cubs would likely ask for some decent prospects considering that they gave up quite a bit to Tampa to get him in the first place and I don't know if Theo is ready to give up on the Miller project just yet. Come to think of it, I don't know if Miller has any options, and Theo probably wouldn't want to take the chance of losing him on waivers.
  21. Not sure if this was mentioned earlier in the thread but it's interesting nonetheless: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/11/the-red-sox-are-interested-in-matt-garza
