  1. I hope we see more World Series 2013 of Ortiz again tonight.
  2. Baltimore and Yankees have been in freefall. A win tonight could potentially take the division.
  3. Losing Lester, Lackey and Peavy would be disastrous.
  4. What is he going to do, take a year off ? How many 37 year olds come back from a year off and make 20 million ? Also, he did have a prenup FYI.
  5. There has been word of Lackey retiring instead of taking the league minimum. If he is using that as leverage, the Red Sox use that as leverage and say he can't possibly want more than a one year extension. Lackey gets 20 million for 2016, but it is spread out so he can "support his family in 2015" or whatever ********. If he is looking for a 4-5 year extension, they can just use the option, he'll "retire" and they screw his baseball future. There is a lot of leverage to be used here because at the end of the day, Lackey should honor the contract he signed.
  6. If he doesn't want to play for the league minimum, a 2/20 deal seems like in everyone's best interest.
  7. Rangers lost two more starters in Harrison and Perez. They still have Darvish, but I can't see them recovering from all the destruction their starting rotation has seen.
  8. Quiet thread tonight. Bruins took a tough loss -- maybe the board will liven up now that it is over.
  9. Its a crazy idea, but I do not think baseball will survive without speeding up the game. Would you rather baseball fandom be full of senile old people who complain about stupid young people with s***** attention spans? I recently read an article that said the median viewer age for the World Series clincher was 53. I work in Boston with a pile of 20-30 year old frat-type guys, and none of them are Red Sox fans. None.
  10. It was about time Peavy's walks would catch up to him. Eesh.
  11. I just noticed that. Well done hahaha. That should be the reward on forgetting a gamethread.
  12. I have had a crazy thought about baseball for a few years now. Most won't agree with it, but it would fix many problems in the game. Drop the number of balls for a walk to 3. Pitchers will nibble less, and pitch to contact more. This will result in fewer pitches thrown, and potentially fewer arm injuries. It will speed up games and make them more offensive oriented for casual and younger fans with short attention spans. We will see fewer power throwers with absolutely no control. All those arms who can reach 100 mph, but can't find the strike zone will be pushed out of the league, and injuring fewer players. There will be fewer balls thrown AT players to push them off the plate, or as warnings, ********. The rule will not prevent intentionally hitting someone, but warning throws will add up very quickly. Each pitch will matter, and umpires will stop getting away with awful calls.
  13. The numbers so far have been great, although the season is early. Lots of live arms, but too many rookies.
  14. Thanks Jacko. It is posts like these that makes many of us want to keep you around.
  15. Almost makes you feel bad about spitting in their food?
  16. They basically replaced Mariano with rookies. So far they have been doing well, but they'll get exposed eventually.
  17. Boom! The Red Sox caught up with the Yankees thanks to old friends Aceves and Thornton.
  18. Certainly -- that's why I called Sam a great sell-high opportunity a few posts back.
  19. Fred, I agree with you on Denorfia. He's an excellent corner outfielder who would serve as a great platoon partner for Gomes. I just mentioned Samardzjia in another thread, but he's a 4.00 ERA NL pitcher having a good season. The Cubs have been stockpiling quality talent, and I really don't want to let Theo get his hands on some of the Red Sox's. Masterson is another 4.00 pitcher that probably won't be as good as any pitching project traded for him. The Red Sox will either stand pat for pitching or go for Cliff Lee. Win big, or farm big.
  20. He's unproven in the ace role that I am sure the Cubs will be trying to sell him as. He is a NL pitcher with a 4.00 career ERA, who has pitched one/twoish full seasons as a starter. Now he suddenly is pitching like an ace, and the Cubs are trying to sell him as one.
  21. He seems like another great sell-high opportunity for the Cubs. Trade an unproven guy with good first half numbers and good stuff, no team control, get top prospects.
  22. Is Mookie untouchable though? He's a high talent player who plays a position that is about as blocked as possible. If he can be traded to pull in an ace or hammer for another World Series run, would it be worth it? Clearly it would need to be an impact player -- or multiple impact players coming back. Otherwise, we might need to start sending some of these guys into the outfield.
  23. It is sports news, but not mainstream news. I heard plenty on ESPN, but not much outside of it.
  24. That's because defensively and offensively, the numbers aren't that great:p The numbers that count are this: Red Sox with Victorino -- 8-5. Red Sox without Victorino 11-13.
