  1. Three games against the Rays, and no Price, Moore, Hellickson or Cobb. This series could be a launching point for this Red Sox team.
  2. Is it too late to move Xander to 3B? That -23 UZR/150 at SS hurts.
  3. This is a trap game. Lester has a tough outing ahead of him -- hopefully he continues to dominate here.
  4. Red Sox give Xander Bogaertz, Henry Owens, Garin Cecchini, and Jackie Bradley, and Dustin Pedroia ( eating half the contract) Angels still hesitate. Mike Trout is the kind of player that Angels fans will still be buying the jersey of in 100 years, much like someone like Ted Williams or Babe Ruth. Think about that.

  6. Capuano has been pretty much untouchable out of the bullpen this year. I know he has been a mediocre starter in the past, but he has been a pretty good reliever if you ask me.
  7. Fun fact: The Major league record is 84.2 innings by Bill Fischer in 1962 -- he did it as a starter. Koji must have been close to a RP record.
  8. Sorry Thunder, neither of these things will happen this season.
  9. Ellsbury puts his body on the line with his play, in diving defense and headfirst steals -- that's why he gets hurt frequently. Same thing with Pedroia and Victorino. Maybe he won't have any contact injuries this season, but maybe he will. The point of my post wasn't to say that any one player is going to get hurt -- the point was to say that some of them will.
  10. The Yankees and the Red Sox both have to worry about key players who are either aging or injury prone. The Yanks have CC, Kuroda, Ellsbury, Jeter, Beltran, and Soriano who could all be big question marks midway through the season because of age and injury concerns. The Red Sox rely heavily on Ortiz and Koji, while Pedroia and Victorino seem like big injury concerns as well. Meawhile, the pesky Rays lose a crucial arm in Moore, the Jays are without Reyes and the O's are without Machado. This season will come down to luck.
  11. 8 innings, 1 ER from Lester tonight. Perfect through 5. The longer the Red Sox wait, the more his price will go up.
  12. Yep. Read my other post.
  13. My impression was that Stanton would have 1.5 years of arbitration left midseason, but you're right, he will have 2.5 years. I agree, he's untouchable until 2015.
  14. Shields was dealt during the offseason, not halfway through a season. Any trade with Stanton midseason or next offseason would probably end up looking similar to the Agon trade. Two top 100 prospects and a lesser known high ceiling prospect. Reports say the Marlin scouts love Middlebrooks. It would probably be WMB + Mookie Betts + one more, maybe someone like Barnes. That's a pretty fair deal -- the days of the Marlins getting an insane haul for Stanton are closing quickly.
  15. I read this headline this morning: Injury replacement Semien hopes to stick with White Sox There have to be an infinite number of jerking off jokes to be had here. Infinite.
  16. I understand that it is a small sample size, but over 100 plate appearances, Bogaerts has crushed lefties (.924 OPS) and been beaten by righties (.554 OPS). Was this a trend he saw in the minor leagues? He definitely needs to make an adjustment here.
  17. In 2011, when the "Best Team Ever" was off to a terrible start, one of the beat writers mentioned that the whole team was playing like garbage, and that only two players deserved to be on the plane back to Boston -- Jed Lowrie and Jon Lester. Three years later, Jon Lester is, again, the anchor of this staff. Three starts averaging 7 IP, 2 ER. He is as reliable as a starter gets.
  18. The Red Sox will need to figure out what they're going to do with Carp/Nava/Gomes before long. Carrying three LF with no defense will hurt them for the rest of the season otherwise.
  19. So far all the instant replays I have seen have gone in the opposite direction that they should have. It is as if MLB umpires are striking against the system by completely disregarding it.
  20. It seems really odd to me the number of dropped strike 3 calls so far this year. It doesn't seem to hurt the Red Sox at all, but I swear, I've seen it happen about ten times already this year.
  21. I appreciate this comment. Whenever there is a big power threat whose past appears to be behind them... someone says that player is washed up, and sure enough, he cranks one into the bleachers.
  22. The Red Sox have 78 million dollars to 2015. Factoring in arbitration raises to a few guys and Doubront's first year, we are probably looking at 95 million dollars committed to payroll, but only 90 million against the luxury tax. The positions that will need to be replaced are Catchers(2), Relievers (3-4?) Starters(1-2) and 1-2 Outfielders. The majority of those positions will be filled with the farm system which means there will be plenty of payroll for other significant players who deserve it. All of the big money free agents are SP/3B/SS -- unless the Red Sox want to overpay for someone like Scherzer or Shields, Lester makes the most sense here by far. I am definitely running in circles here, but Lester just makes the most sense, and no other free agent seems like a better fit.
  23. The bad start has boiled down to a few bad starts, and crucial injuries to Vic, and Middlebrooks.
  24. Jeter is retiring this year? I had no idea.
