  1. Joey Votto, Cliff Lee, Jason Kipnis. That's three of my top four draft picks, and I was already extremely short on top tier talent because of the #10 pick.
  2. If Lester has another bad night on the mound tonight, maybe it would be a good time to get back onto the extension talks. If he is a good night, it might also be a good time to get back onto extension talks.
  3. Also, might be worth kicking the tires on Rios or Choo. Rios is on the last year of his contract, with a somewhat pricey option -- he fields RF with good range, produces RBIs and the Rangers suck right now. The Choo ankle injury is a concern, but he has been producing. The Rangers are spending a lot for him despite a season that seems doomed to failure. There will be very few significant outfielders hitting the FA market, so no big bats in that area any time soon.
  4. That'd be great, wouldn't it? He'd probably cost too much though -- giving up a Bradley, WMB, or RDLR might be on the low end.
  5. Tonight's the night to stop the bleeding. The major league record for biggest turnaround is 14.5 games down in August. 8 down in May will be child's play for this team. Xander starts hitting with RISP, Nava gets back to onbasing .380 against righties, and Clay/Sizemore start playing like it is 2009 again.
  6. As a fan, I witnessed two of his games at Fenway where he unapologetically gave up 6 runs in the first inning. Thanks for 2007, but Beckett GFY
  7. New nickname idea: Boston "Batting Practice" Red Sox?
  8. The official report on Doubront is in. He bumped his shoulder into a car door and bruised it. There is no structural damage, and only minor overuse. Well, I guess it is a better excuse than blaming a baby. Maybe he is still tradeable.
  9. Who comes up? RLDLR, Barnes or Workman? Or Ranaudo? Or Webster? Decisions!
  10. Hey Ortiz, pretend its October.
  11. Victorino's career OPS is .777. In 2013 it was .807. Napoli's career OPS is .857. In 2013 it was .842.
  12. I'm perfectly fine with trading away pieces for value -- they stockpiled extremely well the last year or two. Wanting a losing team is what seems silly to me.
  13. Nava, Carp, and Koji had career years, but a few guys having great years isn't exactly unusual. The key players played to their career norms.
  14. And instead, they'll be complete garbage not just in 2014, but in 2015, and 2016. Hooray!
  15. Cliff Lee. There goes my team.
  16. Xander caught dreaming of third base today.
  17. This is why it is silly to want your team to tank for the lottery.
  18. It seems extremely early to give them such glowing accolades. They have done extremely well, but the league has not adjusted to most of them yet. What I do commend the Yankees on is taking all these prospects and putting them into the pen. Teams tend to let their prospects waste away as bad starters who get shelled before converting them to relief roles. Sometimes it feels like the game is still run by the old guys who don't believe relief pitching is actually part of baseball.
  19. Fred, you have a habit of raising our collective blood pressures. They added a player, and made the team better. They've also shown that they're not giving up on being a winning team this year. There will be more changes to make, but I certainly trust them.
  20. Drew is back. One solid corner outfielder, and the team can get to a very competitive place.
  21. Despite my comments about bringing up the prospects, there is nothing that makes me happier than having a front office that has a commitment to winning. 10 million is no small number amount for a player like Drew, but I think everyone should come away happy with what they want on this one.
