  1. Not sure if anyone noticed but despite an ugly 10 games losing streak, the Red Sox are 2.5 games back from a playoff spot.
  2. .... which says a lot about Brock Holt, doesn't it?
  3. I would make a sizeable bet that he does turn into a pumpkin. This is a guy who hit his first mlb home run last night, and has shown no signs in his career of this kind of success. Enjoy the ride and the hot bat, but his career will not be a fraction of the success as Drew's.
  4. 7 in a row from the Red Sox against two playoff teams from last year. I can't tell if this team is the real deal, or not. Getting rid of Buchholz and Doubront has seemed to improve the team significantly.
  5. This seems like a silly question, but why is Mujica in a 4 run game? I get it that Taz and Koji can't pitch every game, but Capuano, Badenhop, Miller, Breslow, Wilson, Drake Britton, Mujica's grandmother, or Mike Carp are better options here.
  6. Ortiz too. It happens when the majority of your starters aren't in the game.
  7. I noticed three Rays batter tonight strike out on a dropped ball, and not run to first base. Isn't that one of those things that scrappy young teams do?
  8. Maybe the Rays just suck, but Lester has seen a ton of swing and misses today.
  9. Brock Holt 3-3, all doubles. What a week for the guy.
  10. Alex Hassan with his first major league hit after taking the count to 3-2. Not too shabby.
  11. Pedroia thrown out of the game for complaining, Cecchini gets his first taste of the major leagues at 3B.
  12. In all fairness, Daniel Nava is a very generous 5'11.
  13. Brock Holt is pretty hot right now.
  14. Alex Hassan gets a Nava opportunity.
  15. Cafardo posted an article yesterday saying the Red Sox might be best positioned to trade with the Cubs for Samardzija, and followed it up by saying that it would probably take either Owens or two of the other top pitching prospects. I am baffled by this guy. He's a 30 year old 4.00 pitcher in the NL Central hitting free agency next year. Sure, he's having a good year, but he is a #4 pitcher and the Cubs are asking for #1 value.
  16. Lester versus Bedard. I know reverse locks are a thing, but this is the best matchup the Red Sox could have.
  17. Stephen Drew had a 3.4 WAR over 124 games last year -- over 150 games, that's a 4 WAR player. By letting Drew take SS, you may be losing offense at SS, but you're significantly improving the defense at SS, significantly improving the offense at 3B, and potentially significantly improving the defense at 3B. This team won a World Series with Drew at SS and Xander at 3B. Don't forget that. Also keep in mind that all of the best shortstops in the MLB are injury prone -- Reyes, Tulo, even Drew. The position is very stressful on health. Why risk Xander's health when his future is better off at third?
  18. Its official. Nava Fan is a lock for the next playoff game's mojo!
  19. What is it going to take to get Price out of the game? Two hit batters and a shot way inside on Holt, a downpour, high pitch count in the 5th, and he's still out at 7th.
  20. Don't they delay games if it is just the first game of the series? They can still play those innings the next two days.
  21. Its pouring, in a 2-1 game, with a rookie on the mound trying to prove himself, and you throw him out on a slipped throw?
  22. Price has been really favoring the outside part of the plate since the brawl. Glad they're taking advantage.
  23. Price really needs to cool it. He probably only has one or two months left with the Rays and shouldn't make enemies.
