  1. Alex gonzalez was the best shortstop available. And he signed for 2 million for 1 year. Cameron as a 4th outfielder isn't really a big deal, considering he bats right, and Ellsbury/Drew bat left, and between that and injuries, they all get significant playing time. How many times have we seen our outfield as Macdonald/Hall/Hermida this season? Cameron has hit 24+ home runs for many many consecutive seasons. He's not going to drop that much.
  2. Considering Beltre's defensive record, it makes more sense to consider april a bad stretch than May a good one.
  3. Great at managing egos? He's a FAILURE at managing egos. Dice-k, Manny, Lowell, etc etc, he hasn't done anything better than any other coach would. Not to say I think he's a bad coach, but the FO seems to hate any players with personality.
  4. Well, my reactions with Bogart are probably rash, but I have not seen any worthwhile reason to keep Farrell. The entire pitching staff has underperformed all of this season, and most of last season. In 2009, atleast two pitchers were afraid to tell their coaches about injuries, and only one pitcher has thrown above their expectations-- Buchholz-- but for some reason, they have had no problem leaving Buchholz in for 120 pitches in April. Farrell is the common link.
  5. The 1st base coach has more responsibilities than the 3rd base coach, doesn't he? I don't think moving a bad coach would make him any better. Replace him and move on.
  6. Personally, I would prefer putting Bill Hall in the bullpen before keeping Schoenweiss. Edit: Jonathan Van Every would be a better BP choice as well.
  7. A question we've been asking all season.
  8. Also, replacing John Farrell and that garbage third base coach will go a long way.
  9. I can't think of any reason why they'd want to deal any of their young talent at this point. Buchholz has been too good this season, and they know he'll only get better since he's still 25. Lester/Youk/Pedroia/Ells are the future of the team, and all pretty cheap. Unless they get a great package, there is no reason to trade any of them. They will probably look into trading players they might not get back next year. My money is on trading Vmart. Other teams know that his struggles are probably not going to last, he's a FA next year, the sox need better defense at C, and Varitek is doing everything he should be. Replacing him with a defensive catcher to platoon with tek makes the most sense to me. At this point, the Sox won't be losing much by trading him, but other teams could gain quite a bit.
  10. Last I heard from NESN, atleast 3 more weeks for Lowrie. The team has to get through this month with Hall off the bench.
  11. HUUUGE strikeout.
  12. Vmart in a crucial situation... what the f*** has gotten into him?
  13. There's no reason to blame Lester for the rest of the team blowing his lead.
  14. heh, well, for one, the player was an outfielder.
  15. Major league debut, I think they said. I saw Wells, and for some reason my mind shot to Vernon.
  16. looks like Willis IS pitching. Better for the Sox then.
  17. Whine whine whine. Lackey has been fine. Let's move on.
  18. Since when was Lackey struggling?
  19. Jon Lester (3-2, 3.71 ERA) http://www.yoursportsmemorabilia.com/shop/images/lester%20headshot.jpg vs. Dontrelle Willis (1-1, 3.99) http://vivalavidro.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/midp13807130259_3.jpg In his last four starts, Lester has averaged 7.5 strikeouts, with a .98 ERA, and nearly 7 IP. The last time Willis faced Boston, he throw a no-hit 2 1/3 innings.... but with 6 walks and 5 ER. Palodios-is-wearing-his-Lester-Shirt-Today Mojo is in effect.
  20. Record against Yankees and Rays 2-8. Record against other contenders(DET, TEX,LAA,MIN) 8-3 The best three teams in baseball are the Phillies, the Yankees, and the Rays, but I would argue that the Sox can beat just about anyone else.
  21. If I worked at Logan Airport, and Pedroia asked me to delay a flight, I would delay a flight.
  22. It seriously looked like he was trying to set up the Sox lose. That is when an umpire needs to lose his job, for so many reasons.
  23. Lars is still hitting those numbers? It'd be great news if he can continue hitting, and be ready for the Sox fairly early next season.
