  1. Has anyone noticed the last few years that Dustin Pedroia plays pretty good defense at second base?
  2. In all fairness, in games that Beckett has started, the Sox are 5-3. In those three losses, in one game he gave up 2 runs, in another he gave up 0 runs, and another he gave up 9 runs. While you could argue that he weakened the bullpen, he has only been directly responsible for one loss. I'm not saying he's been pitching well-- he hasnt-- but the team has backed him up. Edit: Hell, now that I think about it, the one game he lost, he pitched extremely well until he got pissed off and started wailing on Yankees--something many Sox fans wouldn't mind.
  3. Today, the pitching, offense and defense all have been exceptional. I wonder how long it will last?
  4. Sounds like a Cy Young waiting to happen to me. Also, I do not like the cone of shame.
  5. So far only 2 hits from Lester... but they followed by 2 double plays. 40 pitches 4 IP. Having Buchholz/Lester pitch consecutively is going to be great for the pen.
  6. Is it just me, or has this team been doing exceptionally against good pitching lately?
  7. Haha, considering Youk hit a home run two seconds ago, I'll assume this was supposed to be in the game thread.
  8. The Lowell nonsense needs to end. He whines about not getting playing time, so they reward his distraction by putting him in? I wasn't sold on Ortiz before, but he's putting up great numbers right now, and the last game he faced a big lefty-- Sabathia-- he came up 2 for 3 with a walk.
  9. Oh, definitely. Slow, declining sluggers who can't play a defensive position at average levels don't get big contracts. Vladimir Guerrero, Matsui, and Jermaine Dye come to mind. I could see Ortiz getting 5-7 million next year.
  10. I still feel the same way I did a month ago. Replacing Saito/Wagner with Schoenweiss/Atchison/Joe Nelson really hurt the team. Getting an above average bullpen arm from one of those teams that are already several games back shouldn't be expensive, and unlike getting a big bat, its something in much higher quantity, so its difficult to speculate where from. I would love to see a Lowell+11 mill for a bp arm type trade at this point-- but maybe thats a bit optimistic.
  11. Pierce is being cocky because they did it in Orlando, and were able to build big leads against them. The crowd got Orlando back into it at the end of both games, but in the end the Celtic defense is killing the Magic. That, and Pierce has just as big a head as Lebron or any of the NBA's egomaniacs.
  12. Haha, I guess so. But there is a point where a pitcher dominates anybody-- good hitting or bad-- and will save the bullpen some work every time out, and that's what it means to be an ace. Beckett had an extremely long streak like that, but he's not quite there with the Santanas/ Halladays because he's inconsistent, but there is no question that when he's on, he's on.
  13. Yeah, especially when we have a perfectly healthy Tim Wakefield in the wings.
  14. I just think its hilarious that Drew will absolutely need to be taken out of a game with some injury or something, and the next day, he'll be fine. Better than a full season injury sure, but the 24 hour injuries are just odd.
  15. What happened to Nancy's calf?
  16. I actually think interleague play should happen more-- it doesn't make sense for the Sox to play 18 games against the yankees, and 0 against the mets who are right across the street. But at the same time, the DH rule is a big problem that needs to be made consistent. I don't care what decision they make, but I don't think the injury risk is fair for pitchers from the AL to hit in NL games. It seems like AL pitchers get hurt all the time because they're simply not used to it-- Bartolo Colon hurt himself batting because he's a flan, but he's not the only one.
  17. Yeah, they said that on ESPN as well. It doesn't seem that unreasonable-- winning the first two games, both on the other team's court while being the underdog is tough.
  18. I don't see anything funny about that. Their offense has been perfectly fine and their defense is stabilizing. Of the six starters, only Lester and Buchholz have really met their expectations. If their pitching ever comes back, they can prime a comeback, if not, they're f***ed.
  19. All I said was that he was the best shortstop available-- I didn't say I expected it.
  20. Randy Johnson made mullets look cool. Sabathia does not do the same for being fat.
