  1. I really doubt Scot Boras would want to have anything to do with a weight clause. Plus, even if Fielder breaks the contract, they wouldn't get their prospects back. I'm not saying Fielder isn't a great player, but the risks with him are too large, no pun intended, for that kind of package.
  2. If one out of those three players turn out to what they project to be, then will it be worth trading ALL of them-- who will be on cheap contracts for several years-- for a slugger who will be expensive to retain, and has the exact same risk of turning out like "the sack of sh!t" Ortiz? It makes zero sense to trade a team's top two prospects and its reliever with the best value for a player like Fielder, especially after what happened to Westmoreland.
  3. Its funny that after you posted the bridge year comment, you say something like that. Trading the team's closer of the future, ace of the future, and slugger of the future for Fielder who is a liability because of his weight just doesn't seem to connect with that comment.
  4. Lars is 22, he had one bad year in development, it happens. He was pounding pitching in AA, so he got promoted to AAA recently. It really does look like he's back to being a top prospect.
  5. Not that I think he's been a great manager-- most of his deals lately not gone well, I just think its too early to call him out for this past offseason.
  6. I don't see the lapse in judgement of signing a player who has been pretty healthy for quite a few years. Its not like he got hurt from a pre-existing condition, kidney stones happen. He was the best outfielder available at the time that didn't cost a 4+ year, 65 mill+ contract. The other options were Jermaine Dye who can't field, Nady who took most of last year off, Marlon Byrd who wanted a longer contract and was mostly unproven, and Damon/Crisp and the list only gets worse. Yeah, I wanted Holliday, but they chose Lackey instead.
  7. Nathan has been a top closer. TJS is better than it used to be, and he's only got 2011 left on his contract-- just enough time for Bard to get in closer shape. I don't see any other team that will be desperate enough for a good closer, has an unused piece that Bos wants (Ramos) and is willing to pay. Texas is a possibility, but I would be surprised if they make a big deal with them any time soon.
  8. They cannot let Buchholz break 110 again. he's too young and inexperienced to be getting those kind of pitch counts this early on, and with his confidence record, it just isn't a good idea to be leaving him in too long when he's vulnerable. If they want a bridge, don't hack the support pillars with a chisel.
  9. People have talked about him losing velocity, but he was hitting atleast 97 yesterday. I don't think he's lost his value, and there is no question he's still an elite closer, and one of the best two or three. Throw this one into the rumor mill, but Minnesota could be a strong target. Papelbon for Nathan + prospects seem reasonable, since the Sox's season may be dead, and the Twins look very strong without a real closer.
  10. Two more games and we're at 1/6th of the way through the season. He's at 88 now-- do the math. With the options of Vmart and Lowell, they will keep him on the bench just enough to save 5 mill. Unless the team makes the playoffs AND he doesn't get DLed at all this season, he's making 5 million next year.
  11. what do you think? Lugo strikeout or infield dp?
  12. 4 home runs between Drew/ Ortiz in two days, and an xbh from beltre. This series is ridiculous.
  13. He hasn't pitched in months. Hitters have had a month of warming up-- he has not. He had 4 innings of 0 ER but got worn out once he passed the number of pitches he's been at lately. What do you want, a guy that hasn't pitched a full game in months to throw 130 pitches for 7 innings and 0 earned runs?
  14. I certainly hope so.
  15. Beltre makes a great play! and Dice-k is through 4 with 0 earned.
  16. Strike out watch: 3.
  17. And Beltre's hitting streak continues.
  18. ORTIZ!!! AND SO IT BEGINS!
  19. Palodios's Fearless Prediction Luck or no luck, Daisuke will have a respectable season.
