  1. Some teams can't afford 3+ million for a bench player. But hey, he's a great bench player.
  2. Toronto has no Halladay mojo
  3. Lester is back to form. Just 1 ER in his last 3 starts, averaging just under 7 IP per game. Its about time for him to prove that he, not Beckett, is the team's ace.
  4. Well, atleast they got Winn.
  5. Just because Beckett enjoyed hitting a Yankee, doesn't mean he did it on purpose.
  6. In the last four games against the angels, they've won by an average of 5 runs per game. They've committed only 1 error in those games. On and on, the team is getting better and better, but they won't go anywhere if they can't take some ground on the Yanks/Rays in the head to head series.
  7. You know how NESN has those trivia of the game things pop up that Remy can never get right? There was one a year or two ago asking how many of the team's players have the same name as a town in MA. Turned out, about 20%, and that's just in MA. Wakefield/Beckett are in MA, I remember that, but if you throw in other U.S. states, the majority of the roster will have a last name that will be a town. Obviously no Okajima/ Schoenweiss/ Youkilis, but most will work.
  8. Talksox loves overstating advanced statistics. Sometimes you need to use your own judgement-- especially in a case of Papelbon whose save percentage is so ridiculously high.
  9. I thought that it felt forced too, which I found strange because it didn't have to be. If he's a little bit more genuine, and a lot less political, I'll start adoring him like we used to.
  10. I think critics failed to realize just how good the offense was at the end of last year. When the spots in the lineup that are usually more defensive-minded were held by Ellsbury/Pedroia/Al-gon/Martinez, that's going to be a top lineup. What has made this year's lineup so great is that they've been getting a lot of success from bench players and replacements like Lowell/Hermida/Varitek/McDonald, even when the starting players have been underperforming. There are not many teams who will have a bench that strong offensively, and now that everyone is starting to get themselves together, its only going to work better for them.
  11. The point is that its not 21 consecutive if he blew a save in the middle. It is a conditional statistic. As said, move on.
  12. Some conditional statistics are relevant, like how a relief pitcher matches up against left handers, or how some players play better earlier in the season and some play better later. But this isn't the case, its a matter of excluding a statistic to give an illusion that make Paps look better. He messed up, that isn't an opinion it is a fact, so move on.
  13. ERA's don't quadruple over a season. Something has to be wrong with him.
  14. Big win! This has been the first time I've actually felt pretty good about the team all season. Lackey/Lester/ Buchholz are really getting into a groove right now, and Beckett hopefully won't be far behind. Plus, our outfield will be back to normal soon enough.
  15. Since Dipre has been posting the game thread, Beltre has hit two home runs. That's not luck, that's mojo.
  16. Fire the third base coach.
  17. Brandon Wood redeemed himself from all that garbage from earlier.
  18. Perhaps Ortiz has found a loop hole in the drug testing policy where he can only take roids after the season has started?
  19. Lackey leaving 'em loaded! Nice strikeout.
  20. Pineiro has had a rough season. Hopefully he'll have a rough night tonite.
  21. Better question, why is Ortiz still starting? Keep him on the bench, send him to AAA or drop him. It was one thing when he's an instant out, but when he's an instant double play he's too big of a liability to the team.
  22. Hmm... the only player who fits those stats are Ramon Ramirez. But he's still very good. In his first 1.1 innings -- 5 earned runs In his next 10.1 innings -- 3 earned runs. He was great last year until he got overworked, and besides his first three appearances he's been pretty solid.
  23. I know, its a bit early, but considering that they're already hyping it like crazy, might as well make the thread. That, and it seems like a thread that should only be about the positive So let's hear it-- who goes to the All-Star game, and why? My vote is Buchholz, for all the same reasons I agreed with Wakefield last year. When the top three had fallen apart, he was the guy who stabilized the rotation and got some big innings when they needed it most. Plus, I nominate in part because of the boost it would be to his confidence for him to be with the best players in the world.
