  1. Middlebrooks promoted to AAA
  2. Generally, when a guy is on the DL, his team is lacking the performance he should be giving them.
  3. I hope Aceves is ready for his start tonight!
  4. Honestly, I'd really prefer that if it is any of them, that it be Adrian Gonzalez. If Pedroia or Ellsbury gets MVP this year, it will be significantly more expensive to lock them up when they hit FA.
  5. I think there are certain can't-miss players that are absolutely worth the price. The problem is, those guys are usually locked up by their own teams, or looking for outrageous numbers. The only reason why certain FAs are let go is if their team sees a hole in their game. Look at some of the big FA signings of 2011/2010: Victor Martinez (no glove) Adam Dunn (strikeout machine) Crawford (the Rays did want him, but turf/terrible lefty splits were big holes) Werth (injuries, late bloomer) Jason Bay (injury concerns) John Lackey (enough said) Beltre (inconsistent offense) Cliff Lee and Holliday were the can't miss players, and I think we all saw it at the time and knew it. And the kicker was, they weren't that much more expensive than Lackey/Crawford.
  6. Seeing as this was your favorite alternative, what difference does it make?
  7. I want to put this out there again, because its STILL insane. Pedroia as a #4 hitter .471 .491 .922 1.412
  8. Great. Maybe he'll be available in the offseason then.
  9. Jed Lowrie's defense at third has seemed significantly better than SS.
  10. I'm not saying Crawford isn't a bust. I'm saying we do not have enough information to call him a bust.
  11. Beckett will pitch a shutout, and all will be fine in the nation.
  12. The thing about Crawford is that we don't know. If he performs to 2009/2010 levels, and is worth 25 and 30 million dollars in 2012 and 2013, he'll be pretty much right back on track to contract value. With Drew, we already know he's worth less than his contract.
  13. Except it was a five year contract, not a four year contract. The idea is that a player should perform well enough that if they decline in the later years that it makes up for the earlier years.
  14. I can't believe no one mentioned Mike Cameron. His cost-to-value ratio is the absolute worst. 18 million to hit .180. That's worse than Lugo.
  15. I have a hard time considering buy-low opportunities a bust. For every Smoltz/ Andrew Miller, there is a Saltalmacchia, and Albers.
  16. Beckett, Buchholz, Jenks, Youkilis, and Scutaro have all faced back issues in the last twelve months. I hope that is a coincidence.
  17. I really liked the idea of JF, but he really wanted to stay in KC, and he was worth more to them than he is to any team on the field. It sounds like he's a leader in their clubhouse, and since their team is so young, getting rid of him for middle level prospects just never made sense to KC.
  18. Someone has to say it. J.D. Drew.
  19. My buddy in D.C is paying $5 for tickets though
  20. Many teams tend to get that extra aging 1B/DH/OF type to come off the bench and do some damage. Or, an elite defensive guy with poor offensive skills. Between all of their bench guys, they have none of that. The one thing Aviles does, and does well--which a700 likes to ignore-- is that he kills lefties, something the team absolutely needed. The problem is, he hasn't done a whole let else this season. In general, the bench hasn't really been good at a lot of things, besides Lowrie in May, and Varitek in June.
  21. Absolutely agree with this. I'm sure you've noticed, but the bench has seriously underperformed this year. Mike Cameron, Darnell Mcdonald, Jason Varitek, Jed Lowrie... They may have had a good stretch here or there, but they've been absolutely terrible for the long haul, with more 0-fers than any bench I could remember, and not a single one of them has been strong defensively this year either.
