  1. A long flight at the end of a long road trip, with a three hour time difference? It gets exhausting.
  2. Dear lord, does Wily Mo have a hit against a knuckleball in his career?
  3. I've learned a valuable lesson this year. Leave the gamethread if the team is getting hammered early.
  4. Just curious, did you actually look at this? They actually took their pre-season list, kept the same players/grades, and made a one-line comment next to each. Its very hard to judge the current state of the system based on grades from several months ago.
  5. The Mariners have a guy named Furbush? Wow.
  6. Granderson is mediocre defensively, is hitting only .270, and is 4th in the league in strikeouts. Sure, Adrian Gonzalez has fewer homers and triples, but he also has 17 more doubles and 50 more total hits than Granderson. 50! Granderson is 5th in WAR right now. Sure he's in the conversation, but to say he's any better than #3 is pushing it.
  7. Julian Taverez mojo? Fun fact-- in 2007, the last year Taverez played a significant role on a MLB team, the Red Sox won the world series with him on their roster.
  8. No, YOU look it up. This team has 43 losses with Pedroia, and 1 without-- last night.
  9. Hey now, Montero's numbers have been down because he's not motivated enough by the weak competition;)
  10. f*** that.
  11. WIN! And on a completely unrelated note, what happened to the chicken?
  12. The pitching matchup was Lester vs. Blackburn. Hindsight is great and all, but going into that game, it should have been won without Pedroia.
  13. Right, but we're asking him to be a 6th starter, not the 5th. He was healthy in 2010, but pitched from the bullpen. And he was all-star in 2009, the last year he actually had an injury. He also pitched 140+ innings last year, which is still pretty solid for a 43 year old.
  14. Yeah, I doubt Bedard will be even close, because most of the qualifying stats for starting pitchers are counting stats from the last three years, of which he's missed almost two years. SP: Total games (total starts + 0.5 * total relief appearances), IP, Wins, W-L Percentage, ERA, Strikeouts
  15. Everyone thought Wakefield was done at the beginning of the year. He's too old, they said. Hell, I said it too, at the time. But now-- I've been asking this question a lot, simply because people like to ignore it... but, how has Wakefield changed in the last twenty years? His stuff is the same, his ERA is still fluctuating between 4 and 5 most of the time, and its not like he's really lost any of his skill set. He can just as easily go 7-8 innings as 4-5, and that's how he's always been. His knuckleball is still a knuckleball. The question is, how long can he stay healthy, and how long can he stay mobile? Considering how well he's pitched this year (as a #6 starter mind you, not a #2 or 3) I think he has one more year in him, and at that price, why not?
  16. He's been pretty consistent. 3.50 ERA for 15 starts a year. On the DL for the other 15. If he helps this team through the end of the season and stays healthy, they resign him on the cheap. If not, he's going back to the bargain bin for the next team to give him a shot.
  17. Last time out he only threw 70 pitches. Why push him past 90 when he's one of the most injury prone pitchers in the majors?
  18. There was one really amazing plate appearance where the batter walked. NESN showed a picture of where Bedard pitches went, and he didn't throw a single bad pitch.
  19. Lavarnway with another two home run night on Monday. The Sox need to find a spot for this kid!
