  1. Honestly, I think that Daniel Bard is going to be a significantly better starter than any of the second tier options. The Red Sox do need a #4 starter, but I do realistically believe that they will pick up one of the better hurlers up. It just doesn't seem like that many other teams are interested in Kuroda/Oswalt/Jackson at their prices and problems.
  2. I definitely agree. I have posted many times about balancing this team, even if it meant trading elite players for two good players. However, look at the lineup you posted. It is 3 players deep, then you have Youk who can't stay on the field, a rookie, the LVP of the league last year, and then a near--rookie. I prefer not to replace questionmarks in the rotation with question marks in the roster. I would have LOVED to see Buerhle here. I'm definitely with you. But at 15 million? That's big money, and with the group of pitchers available next year, I'd really hesitate on giving it to him. Plus, who knows how much he would have cost to bring to the Red Sox, especially with the collapse last year, and the Marlins seeming content to overbid everyone.
  3. I agree with Dojji. Selig has gotten a ton of s*** over the years.
  4. Tito did nothing of note? You really are just a troll.
  5. We're not talking about a 15 million dollar mistake. We're talking about a 2-3 million dollar mistake, at worst. The other thing-- which everyone keeps disregarding, is how ugly this situation could have gotten. Remember the "Jeter sweepstakes" last year?
  6. He threw to about a 4.40 ERA when he was in the AL. He's only 31, he throws innings, is coming off a career year, and is better than any of the Sox's internal options. And he's healthy. He's not Pedro Martinez, but he's a passable option.
  7. The roster isn't done yet. Stop acting like it is.
  8. Try presenting an argument besides "I'm right and you're wrong" please.
  9. As excited as I am to see Rich Hill back.... it is far too soon to see another knuckleballer in a Red Sox uniform.
  10. A 4.46 ERA in the NL Central translates to about a 6.00 ERA in the AL East. I doubt he'd be willing to take a role as a #8 starter.
  11. Fangraphs says Ortiz was worth 18 million in production last year. The Red Sox were willing to pay him 12.25 in 2010, coming off a season that was not as good as 2011. He was not going to get any less than a 1/12 or 2/20 contract. Designated hitters are in low demand, sure, but none of them are as healthy, or consistent as Ortiz, and none of them hit anywhere near as well as he does. 12.25 to 14 is only a 14% raise.
  12. Also, Ortiz would have been a huge pain in the ass if they declined and offered him 1/10. Atleast this way, they can put it back on him, and tell him he had the opportunity to go for a multi-year deal. A happy leader in the clubhouse is worth a few extra million on this team.
  13. Once again, I'm not going to lose sleep over giving a very productive player a little bit more than market value on a one year deal. As far as Bailey-- I explicitly mentioned it in my last post. He is making less money than Papelbon because of his low innings, but the quality per inning is the same.
