  1. I still will argue that the team that can win the most games in the regular season isn't necessarily the best team built for the playoffs. Balanced pitching rotations can get you more wins, and get you into the playoffs, but it is your aces that win the playoffs for you. In baseball, seeding isn't usually all that important, unless there is a real juggernaut, but most of the time that team will be the Yankees.
  2. I'm realizing that this is more along the lines of... What is more important? Winning more games or beating the Yankees? I argue games, you argue Yankees.
  3. I'm saying that it isn't 1960 anymore. The wildcard exists. Winning the division is an arbitrary measure, and winning 5 more games a year is better for the fans.
  4. When you get the pick like the Rays do, a 2nd round pick is very similar to the 1st round pick that the Yanks/Sox get.
  5. You have spoken a great deal about how you enjoyed the seasons from previous seasons. Most fans will never get a chance to witness a Red Sox playoff game. But I certainly know that if I go to a game, I'll enjoy it quite a bit more if they win. In the general scheme of things, sure, wins are meaningless, but it does matter to the fans, and is part of the experience of enjoying being a sports fan-- of any team.
  6. There are very few good lefthanded pitchers available. I worry that he will come with a price unfitting of a 41 year old, but he is one of those rare players that blossomed in his later years.
  7. Sure, because Pujols's 2009 in which he hit 45 Home runs, hit .327 and had an 1.101 OPS signifies a sure-fire sign of decline.
  8. What difference does it make? For a depth player practically at major league minimum, its fine. The market for lefthanded relievers is so incredibly small this year, that he might even have some trade value, although I hesitate to say that.
  9. Bailey is a mid-tier closer. He is not worth 4-5 major league ready players
  10. So after his big mouthing off, and all the hurt pride comments... he goes out of his way to accept a one year deal. Oh man, why do I have a bad feeling about this?
  11. You are officially a pesimist, and no longer a realist after a comment like this. Pedroia, A-gon, Lester, Ellsbury, Bard, Aceves and Buchholz all made less than 8 million. Mike Cameron made more than all of those players, and Crawford, Lackey, Drew, Youkilis and Dice-k all made more than 8 million.
  12. I'd bet that it is from either the O's, Nats, or Marlins.
  13. The best bet for the Red Sox is to get mid-range guys. No superstars. No Wilson, no Darvish, no Reyes. Buying elite talent just doesn't seem to work-- it seems that all the best players are either traded into big contracts, or kept by their teams to begin with. Its better to have 25 guys making 8 million a piece than it is to have 10 guys making 18 million a piece, and 15 guys making league minimum. Depth> a handful of superstars and filler.
