  1. I'm not sure why you keep bringing up the Ortiz arbitration situation. It was a win-win situation. If he declined, they could take the picks, get younger, and rotate into the DH spot to keep players healthy. If he accepted, they got Ortiz on a one year deal. Papi is coming off a .300 average, 30 HR, .400 OBP season. I'm not going to lose sleep over giving him 14 million a year. He deserved it. As far as Bailey, please use some accurate information. He's going to probably make 4/6/8 the next three years. Those values are only guaranteed for the year he's pitching, and substantially lower inspite of the injury threat. If he gets hurt, they dump him. If Papelbon gets hurt, the Phillies are stuck with him. He's also been just as good than Papelbon has been over the last three years.
  2. I get the feeling Edwin Jackson is not going to be on the Red Sox's radar. He's "asking" for a 5/60 year deal, and I'm not sure if the Red Sox are willing to give him half that. Kuroda/Oswalt/Garza are still their most likely targets. But, Saunders seems to be completely overlooked by most teams, and they could probably land him in their price range.
  3. Jump on you? You're absolutely correct here. The difference between getting a 4th starter and not getting one is huge-- not so much because of the difference those pitchers make in their teams, but rather because of the pitcher they would be replacing. I don't necessarily agree with rushing this process though. At some point, they should throw their best offers to a couple guys, and sees what sticks, but overpaying is never a good solution *cough cough Lackey. I would like to think BC has earned a little credit after the two good relief deals he made. There are still about five good options left, so I don't plan on panicking until that is down to 2.
  4. Andruw Jones back to the Yanks for 2 million.
  5. What are the odds that the Brewers become sellers at some point in the offseason? With the loss of Braun and Fielder their offense takes a huge hit. With both Greinke and Marcum becoming free agents this offseason, they probably would be best off getting value for one, and trying to re-sign the other. Marcum would be a great move. AL East tested, quality #2/3 guy. He'll cost very little in dollars for the value, and since he only has one year left on his contract, it will probably be possible to make a reasonable deal for him. But then again, I'd take any of that team's top five pitchers...
  6. Hey, no has scored a single run on Rich Hill since 2009:lol:
  7. I actually thought that was kind of weird too, but my second impression was that maybe there were some more indepth personal things that he was referring to.
  8. Interesting thought. What concerns me is how long it would take for him to adjust to the major leagues. If he's not performing until around the time Kalish gets back, the timing on that would not be so great.
  9. He had TJ in june, so he'll be ready to pitch this summer.
  10. That isn't their style. They like to get mediocre guys in their mid 30s, make them look like Rivera, and move on the next year He is too established for their tastes!
  11. I don't think so, unless you have some breaking news none of us have heard about.
  12. If you had a choice between Andrew Miller, Kyle Weiland, Tim Wakefield, Scot Atchison, and Dice-k, who would you pick for a #6 starter? I think the answer is pretty obvious. He's a pain in the ass, but even he is a huge upgrade over what they threw out there last year.
  13. Give me the Gagne trade again, and I still do it every single time. There is no way they could have predicted him to have blown up like that.
  14. This team is one big trade/signing away from being a powerhouse again. Lester/Beckett/Buchholz/Kuroda/Bard with Doubront/Dice-k/Wilson in the wings Last year's offense continues to be a juggernaut, plus Lavarnway/WMB/Kalish if they need some youth Bullpen of Morales/Jenks/Aceves/Melancon/Bailey could definitely be league average, if not better.
  15. Excellent excellent deal.
  16. Drew and Cameron came off this year, Jenks and Dice-k come off next year. No Wakefield, no way :thumbdown
