  1. They only pay the posting fee if they get the player. Otherwise, what would stop Darvish from posting, rejecting the offer and letting his team reap the benefits of the posting fee to make his team better?
  2. Is there any penalty for not signing Darvish? What if the Blue Jays bid high solely so they could prevent the Sox/Yanks from getting him, and then didn't offer him much of a contract?
  3. I would bet that any deal for a high quality major league player will start with Lavarnway.
  4. Despite my love for Lowrie, I'm going to argue you on this one. They got a guy who was closing in 2011 for five cost controlled years. Consider how little payroll flexibility that this team had. To get a quality setup guy for little to no extra salary costs will end up being clutch. Melancon had an ERA of half a point LOWER than Bard last year, and NL closers almost never throw to pitchers. Weiland is 25 years old and had a 7.86 ERA last year. Even if he did turn it around, could you see him being anything better than a #5/6 starter? Or could you see Lowrie stay healthy for a full season?
  5. Dojji has many loves. I, only have one.
  6. Does anyone know of any good job opportunities for a software engineer in Houston? I need to move out there to be with my one true love, Jed Lowrie.
  7. I'm not sure why you're disregarding my point about Lackey. There are very few proven MLB players, that is my point. And Yu Darvish throws real pitches, not imaginary ones.
  8. Lackey had a career ERA under 4.00 before he came to Boston. Everyone complains about pitchers coming from the AL West, the NL in general, and plus, pitchers from the AL East always come at a massive premium. There are no sure things. If their scouting reports say Darvish looks like the real deal, then d well, sometimes it has to be done.
  9. How is converting a pitcher who pitches every 6 days a week to 5 days a week any different than converting a starting pitcher to a relief pitcher? We saw a glimpse of greatness in Dice-k in 2008. Everything I've heard of Darvish has been all positive. I just don't think it makes any sense to ignore a guy because the culture of baseball is a bit different over there.
  10. I read an article recently that talked about this. In a nutshell.... Hey, Bedard is from Canada, so should the Sox stop signing guys from Canada because they have injury problems? Hey, Manny Ramirez was a douchebag, all guys from the DR are douchebags? It works the same way with Darvish. He's from the same country. That's where the similarities end. The thing the Red Sox should definitely make a bid, but any more than 15-20 million would just be silly.
  11. No. This team has too many divas, and too many bad personalities. What this team needs to do is hold onto guys like Scutaro who hustle, and have to fight for their jobs. Having ten guys on the payroll making 10 million or more is bad for team chemistry, and they should realize by now that they're not the Yankees.
  12. Rich Hill for closer in 2012. No one has scored an earned run against him since 2009. Seriously though, I bet he will be a big surprise in the bullpen next year.
  13. Point A is not true about Emmz at all. Anyone who looks at the numbers will have a huge crush on Pujols. This is a guy who averages 8 WAR per year his ENTIRE career. In 10 of his 11 seasons he has come in top 5 of MVP voting including 2011. As far as decline... you must be very short-sighted. From May 30th on, he hit .322 with a 1.011 OPS, and that includes the month before and after his injury. He's about as injury prone as a brick wall.
  14. Let me post what Valentine said about his conversation with Beckett. The following is referring to Valentine's criticism's of Beckett taking a long time between pitches:
  15. I don't understand why this team has decided that players like West and Green will be this team's future. Mind-boggling.
  16. I am going to shout this, because people overlook it every single time that an Ellsbury for Felix trade is discussed. There will be no straight up trade, it will not happen. However... THREE TEAM TRADE!
  17. Poor Milwaukee. Really crummy, and utterly terrible timing
  18. This is not what I'm arguing.
  19. Oh, absolutely. Division titles will be crucial now. But the last decade it didn't matter.
  20. Beckett isn't going anywhere. They simply won't get the value for him. I was really hoping for them to trade him for a #3+#4 or #3+#5, but there aren't many teams with that kind of pitching depth, and the ones who do-- the Braves/Rays aren't interested, or already traded a few guys-- Giants/A's
  21. My opinion is that in the general scheme of things, the value of division titles is negligible. For some reason I forgot about home field advantage, but besides that, I could care less about whether the Red Sox have more regular season wins than the Yankees (or Rays). Win percentage is going to make fans happier--casual and hardcore-- and happier fans mean more ticket sales, and more money for better players. Does winning an arbitrary division title make as big an impact? I would say no, but I don't have any way to get that kind of data.
