  1. Josh Hamilton might be on his way back to the Rangers?! Woah!
  2. The Ben Zobrist-lite comparison seems about right. Zobrist's career line is .264/.354/.429/.783 and I would imagine Holt might come a bit under that, closer to .700-.750 from less power but better hitting. Defense will be a bit inferior as well, but still good at many positions.
  3. The Red Sox have a long history of trading away cheap low ceiling pitchers. Steven Wright fits that mold, but I doubt other teams will be interested.
  4. Wright has a 3.60 ERA in the majors, a 3.70 ERA in AAA, and a 3.51 ERA in AA. You don't like knuckleballers, many people don't, but we need to see him pitch in the majors for an extended period of time before making these kind of judgments.
  5. Excellent matchup tonight. Hopefully Kelly keeps his Cy Young aspirations going.
  6. The big problem is that the Rays have started the season limping out of the gate. Longoria, Loney, Asdrupal, Souza, Dejesus, Jaso isn't a terrible offense.
  7. So far the Red Sox batters have pitched against Cole Hamels, Tanaka, Zimmermann, Strasburg, Gonzalez, Archer, and Tillman. They haven't faced a lot of bad pitchers, but they've still done plenty of damage. I can't wait until they get out there to Minnesota or Houston.
  8. Fred, this team won 7-1 yesterday, beat an ace today, and is scoring more runs per game than any team besides the Royals. I wouldn't worry about the offense.
  9. They're better than some gave them credit for this offseason, but health is a big issue. Longoria is injury prone, and they already have Cobb, Moore, Smyley, Loney and Jaso hurt. That's too many key players.
  10. An all right handed lineup against Miley? His splits don't seem that drastic -- it seems like they would be better off putting in their best possible lineup since they lack depth.
  11. Archer is a much better pitcher than Miley, and Tampa is at home. Fortunately, the Rays have an awful offense, and the Red Sox a good one.
  12. Masterson has a 5.74 ERA. Buchholz 6.06, Porcello 6.63, Miley 10.57. Do you really think Steven Wright isn't going to be able to add value to this club? If Wakefield came out of retirement, he might as well be the #2 on this pitching staff.
  13. Most of us here just point to the chart, and laugh it off. His medical analysis is almost always correct though.
  14. Panda is one of those players that many of us didn't want at the time, but he certainly has his value. That just doesn't happen to be home run power. Middlebrooks is a AAAA hitter who ran into a few balls so far this year, and is going to look much less appealing once the NL catches up to his inability to hit offspeed pitches. Panda's OBP in 2015 is .389 compared to WMB's .269 -- That should tell you something.
  15. They called the game. Red Sox win 7-1 after 7 innings!!! Red Sox didn't win the series, but they didn't lose it either.
  16. Thunder, don't you dare lose this game haha
  17. I have always been very "Who cares" about steroid usage. The league vilified the players who made it great, and it should be a black mark on the league, not the players. That being said, there is a breaking point where players go well beyond cheating. Guys like Pettite and Ortiz really aren't problems. However, some players make the league just look bad because they are caught cheating time and time again. Colon's frankenstein fat stem cell ped ********, and then guys like Braun, Manny and Arod.... they all should have lifelong bans.
  18. You see, 5 runs in 5 IP. That's something you can justify complaining about. Still, game is far from over.
  19. 3 runs does not make a bad game, or a pitcher inconsistent.
  20. Complainers going to complain. Porcello threw an 8 IP gem last week against a World Series contender, apparently that doesn't matter because he gave up a bad home run today.
  21. Porcello has thrown each of the last three batters pitches directly in the center of the strikezone. Finally Flaherty caught up with one.
  22. And the sonnets. Oh man, sonnet week was hilarious.
  23. The two recent examples I can think of are Jason's Varitek's ugly divorce, and Pedroia's brother pedophilia trial. Both seemed to affect numbers at the time, but there isn't nearly as much of a correlation as we might expect.
  24. They just need to stay in the hunt until reinforcements come into the rotation. With the next several serieses against AL East opponents, it is critical for them to survive as long as they can, and maybe if we're lucky we might see a Cueto-type for July-Christmas.
