  1. I don't think he was pointing to anyone in particular. JD Drew's last year was bad, but one bad year isn't the end of the world. Lackey has actually improved through his five year deal. That being said, f*** Crawford.
  2. Sounds like McCann and Ells aint happening.
  3. I'm not saying it will happen, but players of his talent level always go for atleast 3 premium prospects. If the money is the problem, the Dodgers eat monetary cost, not talent cost.
  4. The more they eat, the more Kemp costs in prospects. With his talent level, they shouldn't give him up for any less than one of Bogaertz/Bradley/Owens, and two of Ranaudo/Barnes/Cecchini/Webster. The Red Sox are not going to be that desperate.
  5. They need to check out his knees. If they seem healthier than Napoli's hips, they should go for him. Otherwise, I see absolutely no reason to sign him above Napoli, even if it would mean the Sox get an extra pick.
  6. I've been working on a few variations, but this one is probably my favorite so far. The joke last offseason was that every time someone would sign starting pitching other than the Red Sox, someone would say "Wake up Ben!" Thus, speculating began that he had narcolepsy, and could often be found sleeping in his office during calls with agents, at GM meetings, and eventually in a pile of his own vomit on the floor of a bathroom of a popular Boston strip club partying with Mike Napoli and other players this October.
  7. What? They didn't want to pay 200 million for an injury prone outfielder that averages 10 HR a year? But he's from Oregon! Blasphemy.
  8. At the end of the day, the 2013 Red Sox won't win any MVPs, Cy Youngs, or Manager of the Year awards. What they did win was a Executive of the Year by our favorite Narcolept with wowzas. Oh and defensive player of the year. But mostly EOTY.
  9. He probably will. Last year, you simply had to give it to Cabrera because of the triple crown. This year, it will be different. I also think Davis may take votes away from Cabera from the voters who dig the long ball.
  10. I keep saying it, and I keep thinking it, but the smart move really is to sign Napoli, Ruiz/Salty, and add a fill-in center fielder and a bullpen arm. There are years where you need to shake things up and make a big move, but I don't think this is one of them. You have 6 good starters. Piles of good waiting arms in the minors. Waiting for a breakout year for guys like Middlebrooks, Xander, Bradley, Lavs or Brentz at the plate, or Vazquez behind it. Maybe even Cecchini.
  11. Hey Thunder!
  12. He has had one major surgery after another. Even if his body is not physically broken by now, his spirit must be. He's publicly stated he's been considering retirement, and at his age that's not a good sign. In 2011, 2012 and 2013, he has played a grand total of 36 major league games, and did not impress.
  13. Kalish's career was over about a year ago. He's not helping anyone. Relying on him in any way whatsoever would be unrealistic.
  14. Alex Wilson ? One year of Span at 6 million is not worth much more than that.
  15. One more thing to note about Napoli... who is to say he can't transition to DH in 2015 or 2016?
  16. I don't think the Red Sox expected to have such an issue with RF. Would you believe Nava played 69 games in right? They must have figured Brentz, Kalish or Bradley could start a few games there, but they really had no depth at that position. Between that, and his openness to start at 1B, Nava had to fight for all the plate appearances he got.
  17. I expect him to be available for a mid-tier prospect -- maybe even someone like Morales. At 6.5 million with one year remaining, he isn't exactly a steal. He also only had a .700 OPS last year. The Nationals look a bit overextended financially right now.
  18. For whatever reason, it just seems like the Red Sox organization has never been very high on him.
  19. I see no merit to this argument. If his speed started to go in 2012, that would be one thing, but he had his career best SB that year, so I don't think there is any reason why he would see a sharp decline at age 31.
  20. Oddity? 2012 was the oddity, not 2013. The guy is a stud, has always been a stud. He had one bad year that people harped about.
  21. That depends on the market. He seems like a guy that is worth more to the Red Sox than to teams who want him. Eating more than 3-5 million would be a mistake.
  22. I agree with UN? Why trade a guy who you will need to eat money to get rid of, will probably perform like a #3, will be very difficult to replace and who absolutely loves it here?
  23. Dempster 2013 ERA -- 4.57 I just want to point out some of the previous years that these guys have pitched. Lackey 2011 ERA -- 6.41 Doubront 2012 -- 4.86 Lester 2012 ERA -- 4.82 Buchholz 2012 ERA -- 4.56
  24. Napoli supposedly already has a multi-year deal from Boston. 3 years is not out of the question by any means. He's only 32, and his hip hasn't gotten worse.
