  1. NESN has to be concerned with its options. Eckersly has been great, but it doesn't seem like he wants a full-time role. Everyone else they have thrown out there has been pretty awful.
  2. It is on CBS and NESN for me. I've become pretty disenchanted with the Boston "fans" -- watching this one at home today.
  3. Ten years from now, there will be a best selling book and oscar winning film about a general manager in baseball with narcolepsy, whose part will be played by the next young heartthrob. This GM had discovered a successful baseball formula centered around finding players who loved the game, didn't suck, and didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. With this formula, he won the World Series and did it without three 20 million dollar players who had been on the team the year prior. The book will be published in 7 different languages, and will be titled "Boob-ball".
  4. 30 minutes after the clinching game of World Series, they cut away to a special feature on Will Mccarver's career. I don't think baseball should ever forgive Fox sports for that. The final game of World Series is not about Mccarver.
  5. Couldn't possibly be happier for you. You deserved it.
  6. The Lackey option has been a big source of confusion for a while. There was a point last year where it seemed like exercising the 500k option would actually save them money because it removed 3 million off the top, taxed at 40%. Honestly, when we heard that they snuck under the cap last year, I assumed they had used it.
  7. There is a difference between keeping the band together, and locking the band down for years to come. The beauty of the QO system is that the Red Sox might be able to get away with 1 year deals for Napoli, Drew and Salty because of the potential cost of the 1st round pick for other teams. Worst case scenario, they have a rookie outperforming their veterans, so they trade away half-a-year of a player and let the rookie play.
  8. The problem is they have a bit too much youth. Bogaertz, Bradley, Lavarnway, Workman, and Middlebrooks can't all be holding down spots.
  9. After all the discussion, Jon Heyman received word that the Red Sox will make qualifying offers to Drew, Napoli and Ellsbury. They are still on the fence about Salty.
  10. Don't forget... Middlebrooks hit significantly better against lefties than righties, and we saw 8 righties in the postseason. He had a .375 OBP against Tampa, and just was a bad matchup in the next two series.
  11. It seems like the Sox will have a target on their heads in the East next year.Toronto will be pissed. The Rays got beat in the playoffs. The Orioles already hate the Sox because of Showalter, and the Yankees are going to realize that the Red Sox are more than an annoying gnat who thinks they are rivals.
  12. User Name... I don't know if I missed it, but I was hoping for your catchphrase in this thread.
  13. In 8.2 innings, Brandon Workman didn't allow a single earned run this postseason. In 7 innings, Felix Doubront allowed 1 ER. In 7.1 innings, Tazawa allowed 1 ER. In 13.2 innings, Uehara allowed 1 ER. In 7.2 innings, Breslow allowed 2 ER. Morales sucks.
  14. A guy like Daniel Nava will own in his possession a World Series ring. Insane.
  15. The Red Sox didn't face an elimination game in the playoffs.
  16. Morales and Bailey at 2 and 4 million a piece aren't that terrible. The other guys are probably gone though.
  17. Sadly no.That was my go-to smiley, and it has been gone since we transferred to this new site layout.
  18. Fred the Polyanna. I need to see that to believe it!
  19. Both Lackey and Farrell have essentially said that whatever they discussed in the 7th inning, it is completely and utterly unspeakable in a censored setting.
  20. Its his 83rd birthday, might as well let it go.
  21. Generally, racist jokes and slurs are a pain, but common. Wishing a tragedy on another team's fan is past the line.
  22. As expected, the Cherrington Seven came up big in the playoffs.
  23. The dramatic shots of Tim Mccarver are kind of awful. Seriously, tonight is not about you *******.
