  1. I've heard on/off that the Mariners are pursuing Bay. I think it makes perfect sense that he ends up there. And jeez, that is great Theo and FO, lets have Hermida start in LF next year. Is Marco Scutaro gonna really be our biggest pickup of the offseaon? If so... oh man.
  2. Nevermind I'm pretty sure he accepted arbitration.
  3. For a year no doubt, but if he wants anything more than that, no way. I'd say he should be a plan B option for the Sox.
  4. Well, what about for the other 81 games? I could see Damon's HR's numbers and production dropping b/c he wouldn't play at a field with Little League Dimensions in RF b/c of the jet stream. Bay or Holliday is the way the Sox have to go to fill the LF postion
  5. I agree, with this team the Sox have right now they can win 88-92 and battle it out for the Wild Card. I think the Mariners are making a series push to challenge the Angels for the top seed in the AL West, at any rate the Angels are better than the Sox right now. So are the Yankees. If Texas picks up Jon Lackey they will be a big threat for the WC. Right now the Sox battle it out for the WC with the Rays, Mariners, Rangers, and even the Twins. Its not gonna be easy, I don't think the Sox will get more the 90 wins and make the playoffs with this current roster.
  6. here's what I hope the Sox due at this point in the offseason. Whether we like it or not, the hole at SS has been filled by Scutaro, but there is still work to be done. Get one more arm in the pen (Rafael Soriano hopefully if he declines arbitration from the Braves). Bring back Bay/ or sign Holliday and fill the void in LF Trade for Miguel Cabrera or Adrian Gonzalez or Roy Halladay * If the Sox trade for Halladay, pursue Nick Johnson. * If the Sox trade for a 1B mentioned above, pursue Rich Harden and maybe Lackey
  7. Didn't know where else to post this but........ it looks like Kelly will finally be exclusively pitching from now on in the minors. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  8. Any chance the Sox are interested in Edwin Jackson? Bill James has him regressing this year with his ERA going up to 4.75, but maybe if he is packaged with Miguel Cabrera.... anyway I've seen stuff on mlbtraderumors that the Leyland said the Tigers aren't in firesale mode.
  9. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/10475170 Could Halladay be heading to the Rays for Wade Davis and B.J. Upton?
  10. Rafael Soriano is the an the Sox should target
  11. the Sox could outbid the Mariners and keep Bay if the Sox wanted him back and $$$ is what Bay is looking for. But if he really keeps to his promise of wanting to be closer to home, and the M's offer him a fair deal compared to what he is looking for, Bay is gone.
  12. of course the New York $$$$$'s would take on Wells, whats an extra 20 mill per to them anyway?
  13. Toronto is terrible tho, they aren't a good gauge to see how a team is playing in terms of........ anything.
  14. Tim Thomas is pathetic... he has let in 5 goals to an inferior Canadien team in 2 periods, has looked just terrible in net, and made some terrible decisions tonight. This is what exactly I was afraid of, except sped up. Thomas is declining to the point that Rask needs to be in there. That contract extension was one of the worst moves of the Charelli era. It constricts the cap, but also we can't get rid of the guy. Who is going to want a backup goalie at that price in a couple years?
  15. Conventional wisdom is that Montero will not be a catcher. He may ultimately hit well enough to play any position (including DH), Montero's defensive rep at C is very poor. If he doesn't completely embarrass himself at catcher and costs himself a ton of value (see: V. Martinez being one of the top-hitting catchers in the league, but an average-hitting 1b). I think the Yankees will do their best to keep him at C unless his defense is abominably bad, hence I don't think he'll be as good as the Yankees project.
  16. Sox could add more to their package than just Kelly and Buchholz if they wanted to, the question is if they want to.
  17. The Sox should be..... the Yanks can't compete unless the offer both Joba and Hughes in a package... even then if the Sox really wanted to they could top that.
  18. Well Scutaro will be the guy for at least two years, which I can live with. This will give Iglesias the two full years of polishing he needs in the minors leagues and hopefully he can be ready in three years to take over. Even that is being optimistic. If he isn't at least we have Scutaro for an option year.
  19. Carrol is the guy I would be looking at
  20. I can live with two years, and all in all its not that expensive. Guying up draft picks for a mediocre guy who had a breakout season at 34 is questionable, but what is done is done. The SS debate is over. Now its time to move on to getting a big bat at 1st and the LF situation. Lets give Scutaro a chance before we crucify him and Theo for signing him.
  21. Thomas' extension will constrict this team for years to come
  22. I can't find the Scutaro signing on any credible English written website
  23. I here the Sox are in on the Rich Harden sweepstakes....
  24. The kid needs development and there is no way he should play on the major league roster at all during any point next season. He hasn't played any level of pro ball in America, and he hasn't played any baseball in a while period. So, he needs to polish his skills in the minors, and get into the flow of American culture and baseball. He needs to be a capable hitter when he reaches the majors, not just a defense wizz with zero offensive threat. Look what happened to Craig Hansen, the Sox rushed him up too quickly, he got rocked, he was never the same and he never lived up to his potential. Maybe or maybe not Iglesias could handle the demoralizing feeling of struggling, who knows. The fact is the Sox need a stop gap solution for at least a year, probably even two so this guy can develop. Signing Scutaro to a long term deal makes no sense.
  25. I think he'll have a shot at the Cy every year for the next decade. If he can put full season together of great pitching. Over the last two years he has started off slowly in April and into May before really ramping it up and pitching fantastically. If he can pitch solid in those two months he could win 18-20 games and have a sub 3 era.
