  1. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/v/vazquja01.shtml He had one good year in the American League in which he had an ERA under 4.50. Give guys up a ton of home runs but to his credit they don't hurt him a lot b/c he K's a lot of hitters and his WHIP is good. He is an inninngs eater, but he isn't John Lackey or anything remotely near a top of the staff guy. He's a 4 for the Yankees, which is were he should be, but he won't post an ERA under 5 this year, I can call that now.
  2. Naw, the Sox FO is scummy, they would try to pin the problem on Lowell
  3. Lucic has been skating at practice for the last couple of days, which is a good sign. He isn't ready to play just quite yet, but he is shooting for the Winter Classic as his return as channel 7 reports. The guy has only played in 10 games this year. Part of the the solution of getting the Bruins out of this quagmire they have been in is to get a healthy Milan Lucic back out on the ice.
  4. Besides CC and Burnett, the Yanks rotation doesn't impress me. I really don't think Petitte will do as well as he did last year, unless the man is just a freak or he gets back on the HGH. I've said all I can say about the crappyness of Vazquez, and I think the Yanks wouldn't be smart to put back Hughes or Joba in rotation. 7-8-9 Hughes, Joba, Mo is the best trio of relievers I have seen if they repeat for a whole year what they did last year in the pen.
  5. He'll get lit up in the AL East, espically pitching at home. He's a pitcher who has benefited greatly from pitching in the NL. Luckily, the Yanks didn't give up anything really.
  6. I believe the Yankees tipped their hand here, and it is that they are in pursuit of a LF. With that type of lineup, Garnder or whomever would be fine, but its the Yankees, and tis the season for unfair spending, so I see the Yankees in pursuit of Bay or Holliday. Bay's agent priced themselves out of Boston, so why not to talk to the Yankees? Its not like the market has been hot for Bay anyway. The Mets currently have the best offer at like 4 years 70 million. The Yankees have said they wouldn't go long term with Bay, but if they offer him 3 years for a lot of money, I don't see how he turns that down. The Cards offered 8 years at 16 million per, I don't know if the Yankees would top that, that is for a lot of years. Bay signing with the Yanks makes too much sense.
  7. Vazquez was garbage during his one year in NY, his ERA was 4.90 and he gave up 30 home runs. Imagine him in the new Yankees Stadium. Yanks got desperate on this move, and it won't pay off. He's won't have a good a year as Dice-K or Buchholz. It does however, open up the LF spot for the Yankees, so it would make sense for them to pursue Jason Bay or Matt Holliday.
  8. I believe Marquis had made the playoffs every year with his first year with a new team. That streak ends lol. Marquis is overrated anyway
  9. Arroyo for WMP was one of the worst trades ever. In a season were the Sox become desperately thin at SP was a season in which Arroyo was an all star for the Reds. It was just a terrible trade from the start, Pena was 27 I believe and even at that age couldn't get a full time gig in the majors. Arroyo was a versatile guy who could pitch from the pen or rotation, a guy who could eat innings and post a 4.30 ERA in the AL East. All the Sox pitchers went down that year and we were f*cked b/c of it. Arroyo has been mediocre to above average in Cincinnati, and he has become a very streaky pitcher, but last season he didn't have a 3.84 ERA and the guy is def. serviceable, unlike that load we brought in for him.
  10. I assume the arbitration numbers haven't been factored in yet either. But anyway, what exactly is the luxury tax cap and what is the Sox estimated payroll at now? Where the hell have I been hearing this $160 million payroll from?
  11. To sum up the last week: lsbury won't be traded. Sox wont spend the money to pay for a LF to replace Ellsbury. Westmoreland is the guy that would be traded in a Gonzalez deal. Holliday and Bay won't be signing with the Sox, there is really no need to. Sox need one more arm down in the pen, I don't want any of the Triple A fodder playing a major role. Sign Duscheserer for long man. Wake will also be in the pen. OT: How close are the Sox to the salary cap anyway? Youk will be the staring thirdbaseman, Kotchman the staring firstbaseman. Lowell will spell Ortiz, Youk or Kotchman when they need a rest or if the Sox are going against lefites. V-Mart plays probably 40 games at 1st too
  12. With an offseason of rest and the hip improving, I think Lowell won't be as bad as he was last year.
  13. Makes sense to hang onto him come trade deadline. The Sox could be more desperate than to get him and could then give up a lot of prospects based on where the Sox sit in the standings.
  14. WCS? Can i be informed to what that his hahaa? Anyway, range isn't the most important thing, but it can be beneficial granted a player doesn't believe too heavily in their ability to get every ball that his hit near them. If you got a a guy diving around for balls he has no business going for instead of just playing it safe, singles can turn into triples. But if you have a guy who takes the right angles to the ball and who covers a lot of ground, that seems like good run prevention to me.
  15. The loss of Bay's bat hurts the offense, but if you can't improve the offense, then improve the pitching and defense. If your losing runs scored, at least your increasing your run prevention. Ellbury in LF, Cameron in CF, and Drew in RF is a damn good defensive OF. The only complaint I have about moving Ellsbury to LF is that in Fenway his range will be wasted, the guy could cover a lot of ground and got to a lot of balls I don't think Cameron would have. Youk is an upgrade over Lowell at third and Scutaro is a steadying force at SS, nothing spectactualar, but he'll make the routine plays. You have a 1-2-3 of Beckett, Lester, Lackey and you have three guys who should post ERA's in the low to mid 3's. Dice-K will be better than last year. Kotchman will be a fine defensive firstbaseman.
  16. Is there more pressure to get Gonzalez now? How long will Lowell miss in the year? Can he actually come back to the Sox without there being feelings of animosity between him and the FO?
  17. We couldn't afford Kessel, not for what he got with the Maple Leafs which was 5.4 million. I don't think he wanted to sign here anyway, I've ever rumors that he wasn't the best teammate and he was often poked fun at for his lack of strength condition with the team ( I heard HC Claude Julien even asked Kessel if he knew where the weight room was). I would of love to seen him back, but whats done is done and hopefully the Leafs will suck for the next two years and the B's cash in on the two picks or trade them for a scorer.
  18. He would play in spots when needed- he would be better against lefties than Ortiz and he can be used when the corner IF's need a rest, don't get me wrong I would like to see the trade go through and get Rameriz, but Mike Lowell isn't garbage, the guy can still play.
  19. So wow, we could be spending 18 million on two guys we don't have anymore, Lowell and Lugo. At this point the big spending is done and the Sox will focus on the bullpen and bench players.
  20. Since Gonzalez trade talks are going no where, the Sox need to focus on filling out the bench and the bullpen. Ideas?
  21. Guy was productive last year in his limited time with the Sox, 120 games and he had 19 homers and 70 + RBI. I know RBI's are overrated, but you need somebody to drive those high OBP guys in. Lowell does just that, he drives guys in, and that should be appreciated, not brushed a side. I think with the proper amount of rest he can still be productive, depending on how screwed up his thumb really is. Guy can be a part time DH vs. lefties and can play 3rd when the Sox are facing a lefty or if Youk or Kotchman needs a day off..... anyway.... can this Rameriz guy be an adequate catcher for the Sox next year? I've seen the break down for V-Mart and his offensive numbers in terms of OBP and BA are down when he catches as opposed to DH/1stbase. There will be a point when catching too much will be detrimental to Martinez's offense, so he needs to be at 1st or DH some of the time.
  22. I would love Miggy Cabrera and would be fine with him instead of Gonzo. The Padres are asking for the moon right now, and they have every right too, they have no need to trade Gonzo and Hoyer knows the Sox farm system inside and out. I'd call up the Tigers and see what it would take to get Miggy. If it costs less in terms of prospects, do it. Of course... he is owed 20 million... Gonzo is making peanuts in comparison. The Red Sox will not go over the luxury tax cap, so I think Miggy is out of the question. Gonzo is the only option at this point that is truly what we need. I'm beginning to think this team stands pat for now, has Kotchman start at first and then they will explore a trade as the season progresses and Theo sees how everyone is doing. Right now I don't see the Sox overspending in trading for Gonzo, but come trade deadline and we are in the the thick of a playoff race, I could see him trading both Ells and Buc.
  23. From a Sox stand point of view, it makes you wonder how Ellsbury couldn't get to a 100 last year leading off for much of the year. He is also in the bottom third in terms of OBP for lead off hitters. Will he get any better? How much longer will it take? It takes more than a few years for some players to really hit there stride and live up to their full potential. Anyway, is Pedrioa a better option batting leadoff? He has done it before and in the event that Ellsbury is traded I would have full confidence in him. I don't see Ellsbury being traded anyway, but I prefer it going Ellsbury-Pedrioa 1-2 b/c Ellsbury has been improving since he entered the league.
  24. The Sox offered 5 years 82 million to Holliday (Lackey money) to Matt before they signed Lackey. The Sox are fast approaching the luxury tax threshold, so I don't think Theo is gonna throw out 15+ million a year for either Bay or Lackey even if they trade Ellsbury in a deal for Gonazalez.
  25. Deal should have never been made for that many years. You give him a two year extension and thats fine. Raask has progressed a lot quicker than I thought I would, but at any rate half way through that extension Thomas will be garbage, and the Bruins will be stuck with the $5,000,000 bill a year. But like someone else said, the real issue with this team is goal scoring. The Bruins need to pick up a goal scorer before the trade deadline to contend this year.
