  1. If Lackey got 17 million, and Hallday got 20 million, then I see Beckett being somewhere in between, probably a lot closer to Lackey''s contract. 18 million a year maybe?
  2. If the deal of Buchholz + Kelley or Westmoreland + B Prospect gets A. Gonazlez to come to Boston and SD likes that package, please Theo fire away. The center piece of that trade, Clay Buchholz is a 26 year SP who has been slow to adapt to the Major League Hitting and his best year was last year, which was nothing great for a supposed ace of the future. Well he is 26, so when the hell is the future? This is the perfect time to trade Clay. Isn't Gonzalez the same age roughly and he is already hitting 40 homers in a season? Seems like he is the smart option to me. He is a relatively young, still cheap, and established as a monster. Clay, well, isn't established or a monster, or even good at this point. 1B last longer than SP's anyway. Do this trade if we can.
  3. Bay is all but gone. If the Sox "had" the money they would sign Holliday because he is the better player. I'm all in favor of improving the OF Defense. You move Ellsbury to LF where he has been better in years past and put Cameron in CF, along with Drew, thats a solid OF.
  4. Well I guess re-signing Bay was plan A for the offseason, plan B was throwing the Bay money at Lackey. From what I heard the Sox offer blew other offers away, in terms of total money and years. I know LAA offered him 5 years 70 million. I am too a bit weary about Lackey, but I think for the first three years of the deal he'll live up to the contract. Like I've said before, if you can't improve the offense, improve the defense. However, I think I would rather see Matt Holliday in LF then Lackey as the # 3 in the rotation.
  5. Cameron would be the every day LF or CF. The Sox are keeping Ellsbury and without a doubt Cameron would be starting most games and he wouldn't be platooning with Hermida. If the Sox can't improve offensively, then why not improve the defense and the pitching? It appears that Bay is all but gone, so I think the Sox should focus on Holliday as a play A, but Cameron is a solid plan B, espically if the Sox trade for Adrian Gonzalez.
  6. Matsui could be going to the Angels for a year at 6.5 million to be their DH.
  7. The M's are really pushing to become a the best team in the West. The have a great top two, and Lee is def. the best pitcher in this deal. However, I don't think they will be able to sign him, he is gonna want a lot of money. If the Phillies will give Hallday a 3 year 20 million per year extension, imagine what Lee wants per year. They had of traded Lee b/c they felt they couldn't sign him past this year b/c they couldn't afford him. Obviously the wanted to get an ace in return that would be locked up. Hallday is. What kind of money is Cliff Lee looking for though? With the Angels losing an ace, and their 3B, they really could be out of the playoff hunt going into next year. If the M's sign Bay, wow, what a friggin offseaon. Good to see Halladay out of the AL East.
  8. I never said it was a bad thing, I just said Theo has never made a real big free agent splash for a high paid guy that has paid off.
  9. The Sox didn't need Granderson, the Yankees did. The teams do have different needs.
  10. If you read I said he picked up some talent off the scrap heaps, example Ortiz, Mueller, guys that had talent that didn't cost a lot. Mueller wasn't the everyday guy reguarly until Hillenbrand was traded for BK Kim in 03. Matt Clement? That was a a huge FA signing and that guy was good for half a year anyway. You really think Dice-K has lived up to all the hype?
  11. Tex is a better power hitter than Youk for his career, higher slugging, higher OPS, more home runs.
  12. The Sox think there are some injury concerns with his shoulder.
  13. Umm Tex is way better than Youkilis... I don't understand that theory. Also, I could see Youk playing LF at Fenway, but on the road that is a whole different story. You want to talk about range issues, well there ya go.
  14. Lugo is a given, and Drew is up for debate, lets not get into that again because we know where that will lead too... anyway, Theo does deserve credit for giving players like Beckett, Pedrioa, Youkilis there extensions early on to keep their costs relaively low compared to their value on the FA market. But to be real blunt, he has never really made a big free agent signing during his time here. He has pulled off some great trades a signed some great talent off of the scrap heaps, but he hasn't brought in a high priced effective guy. Lugo was a bust, Drew has been plagued by criticism since he got here. Dice-K hasn't lived upt to all that money that was posted for him. Schilling, Beckett, V-Mart, Bay were all brought here through trades. Youk, Peds, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Lester were all prospects in the Sox farm system. The only huge contract on the payroll was Manny Rameriz's, and that contract was a holdover from the Duquette era which Theo would constantly try to unload.
  15. I'm just waiting for the reports now that none of this is true and at the last minute the Yanks swept in and offered Lackey a 5 year 90 million dollar deal or something
  16. I don't care about Bowden or Anderson. I can live with trading the rest of those names if we have Lackey signed, have Chapman signed in the minors, and trading those names gets us Miguel Cabrera or Adrian Gonzalez. Finally, the hot stove is heating up for the Sox!
  17. The only time Theo wasn't cheap was when he made two terrible signings for guys he had hard-ons for- Drew and Lugo, and look how both of them have turned out.
  18. Thats why I hate the Hot Stove and the MLB offseason. People have assumed this deal has been done for a while now and have moved on when in fact it isn't official and still on going. While Nick Johnson is a nice OBP type player, the guy is hurt too much and the defensive down grade from moving Youk to third isn't worth it.
  19. Signing Lackey, trying to extend Beckett, offering a deal to Chapman, this isn't the cheap ass Theo I'm accustomed to!
  20. Perhaps not, if the Sox would just grantee five years for Bay, he would be cheaper than Holliday. Then you can spend some money by trading for Miguel Cabrera
  21. Wow, Jon Lackey as a three starter, I can't complain. But 5 years 80 years is a lot for a guy who is already over 30 and if we won't give Bay 5 years, why would they for Lackey? Lackey is a horse, but his innings have decreased and his ERA has increased over the last couple of years. Except for a couple of starts the guy has had his problems at Fenway, but the way he pitched in this postseason made me warm up to the guy, despite the fact that he looks like a total goon. Now the Sox can forget about trading for Hallday, same the prospects for a bat, and that makes Buccholz more expendable.
  22. Yep, its named after IZOD lol. Its right next to the Giants/Jets facility in East Rutherford, NJ
  23. Beckett was a stud in the making, he was a young guy with ace like potential, and I always thought the blister issue was a minor thing. Guys like Penny, Smoltz, even as far back as Wade Miller were guys who were over 30 and coming off of serious shoulder or arm problems. Thats why its frustrating to hear the Sox linked to names like Justin Duchesere and not Jon Lackey etc.
  24. Its not like we would be relying on Wang to be our number three starter or something. If he bombs, which he probably will, we have other guys who can pitch at the 5 spot. Then again, I'd much rather see a guy in the back end of the rotation who can put up 30 starts. I'm growing tired of these low risk-high reward deals where the reward never becomes anything and the Sox are forced to bring guys like Tazawa up to pitch from the number 5 spot b/c we have all the low risk guys bombing.
