  1. Sore back? Spring Training hasn't even started yet and he is already hurt!
  2. Clay could afford to strengthen his shoulder and add some musle. Just gaining weight isn't really a good thing unless it has a purpose
  3. Burnett isn't worth what he is being paid, and really isn't a reliable number two, Pettitte will fall off from last year, and Vasquez sucks in the AL, big time, he's a NL pitcher. One reliable pitcher heading into the playoffs, we have 3.
  4. UCONN downed Nova last night. God UCONN is so wildly inconsistent this year. They beat Texas when they are number one, they beat Nova when they are number three, they but up good fights against ranked teams like Syracuse, Georgetown, etc. but they lose to Providence and Cinncy. Its easy to get up for and play your best for the big games, but a sign of a good team is beating the teams that you are supposed to beat in the games that most people don't really pay attention to
  5. Bode Miller with the bronze woo... Its crazy how fast those skiers and snowboards go down those tracks.
  6. The Yankees offense will carry them through the regular season, however in a short playoff series, with their lack of pitching depth, they could find themselves in trouble. In a 7 game series I think its fair to say with the current roster the Sox would have a 50/50 shot at beating the Yanks. But the Yanks will win the AL East.
  7. Then perhaps its time to make a change in the coaching staff and bring some people in who know how to handle pitchers and stolen base prevention. V-Mart and Tek don't have the best arms in the league, but alot of these awful stolen base figures from last year can be accredited more to the the pitchers and the coaching staff
  8. Thats what I said all last year, the coaching staff is part of the problem. I don't know why Francona and Farrel don't tell this guys to hold the runners on. You don't even need a damn slide step, just vary how long you hold the ball or at least and try to look at the runner when he is on first base.
  9. 1. Batting Average on Ball is Play is one of those sabermetric stats that can be used to make any s***** player look good. 2. Batting average on the whole isn't a great gauge, but when there is runners in scoring position, you need to drive those guys in, and since Drew is supposedly our best hitter besides Youk going into next year, he needs to drive some guys in and produce more. The guy has always had a great OBP, but he isn't one of the teams best hitters. I guess he's 4th. 3. JD Drew is not a better power threat than Jason Bay
  10. We didn't really lose any people out of the pen. Correct me if I'm wrong but besides Wagner who was used in a small sample size, the only other contributor we lost was Saito, and it seemed like he never pitched in an important situation or game. Guys like Delcarmen and Rameriz need to have good full years and not falter in the 2nd half after a good start like they did last year. Bard could be a question mark too, how much will he progress in his development this year?
  11. V-Mart is an interesting situation. If we decide to keep him as a catcher for the future, then the Sox need to go after him. Who knows if Joe Mauer will be on the market or if Wagner or Exposito pan out. Problem is, how much longer is V-Mart a viable option at catcher? As a catcher he is one of the best offensive threats, but if you move him to 1st base he loses a lot of his offensive value. I would give V-Mart a 3 year deal, but anything longer than that is pushing it.
  12. .213 BA with runners in scoring position, now thats impressive.
  13. Got to agree 100% with this. Ortiz needs to have bounce back year in a big way. We need 30+ home runs from him this year and can't afford him to go through long stretches of nothingness this year. He is one of the few keys this offense has in terms of being a power threat. Another question is how will Dice-K bounce back. Another two are how will Papelbon do this year, will he bounce back to what he used to be or will he continue to trend downward and slide from last years performance? Lastly, when and where will Mike Lowell be traded?
  14. Seems reasonable, except for the part about the Sox winning the AL East. I doubt the Yanks will only win 92 games, probably be closer to 102 and the Sox will be 8 back.
  15. Best hitter? Really? Unless its a career year (hopefully) or he's an upcoming free agent Drew will be hurt and put forth a lackluster effort. If he was a free agent after this year I would expect him to go off but not this year. I'd take V-Mart, Youk, and Pedrioa over Drew. Its nice to have on OBP guy, but he can't drive runs in because he can't get the ball in play. Whats the point in having a bunch of OBP guys if there is no big bat(s) to drive them in?
  16. I wish the Bruins didn't have this break because of the momentum, but then again its good to give some banged up guys some rest. Then again, knowing how our luck has ran this season, guys will get hurt in the Olympics. I know nothing can officially be done during the break, but I hope PC is trying to workout a deal to get Thomas out of here or at least get us scorer without trading Lucic or Krejci
  17. It depends on what you define as making good. Will Dice-K be better than last year? Absolutely, there is no World Baseball Classic to mess up Dice-K this year, and all reports say he has been training and appears to be in pretty good shape. Will he be better than he was in 08? Probably not. I think he'll have an ERA around 4 and hopefully we can get more inninngs out of the guy this year
  18. I'd rather have neither. Nixon's "prime" was short lived and he never really lived up to expectations that I had of him coming out of the minor league system. Guy just couldn't hit lefites and was a bit too aggressive at times in RF. Drew... probably the definition of an overpaid athlete if there ever was one. 15 mill per a guy who plays 135 games a year if we are lucky and a guy who looks just down right terrible at the plate at times. With the exception of one hot month of June in 08, and a couple of big post season home runs, I really wish we didn't have Nancy Drew and had gone a different direction in the 06 offseason
  19. ^ Totally agree. Should have been UCONN ball
  20. I don't know if thats entirely true, I mean Dice-K was hurt all last year (not really the Sox fault, but better communication would have helped) and has been on the DL before last year. Wakefield is hurt every year, Beckett seems to hurt down the stretch every year.
  21. UCONN Syracuse was a great game last night. The refs screwed over the Huskies big time though, there was no way Syracuse should have been granted that time out. UConn should have gotten the ball with 35 seconds left.
  22. Bruins siting in 9th place,2 points behind the Lightning, so this is a huge game. As much as I would love to see Tim Thomas traded, I don't think he will be. He has three full years left on the contract and has no trade clause, so who is to say he would even want to leave. Giving Thomas that deal was one of only a few slip ups PC has made
  23. Woo the Bruins won, it smooth sailing and peaches from here
  24. Well thats just stupid. This team needs a real offensive play caller
