  1. Still waiting for stats.
  2. No, that's the discussion we're having. It was established when I started discussing the first 4 years, very clearly on the first page. No one's disputing his 5th year was junk, no one's disputing that he has overall not honored the value of his contract. The discussion is whether or not he honored it in his first four years when he was healthy. You guys want to add the 5th year, but there's no point of doing that when even the best Drew defender could never ever defend that.
  3. You're factoring 2011 in. This isn't about 2011, this is about 2007-2010. He had above average OPS in 4 all of those years. 2 of those years were of 900 OPS. Stop trying to spin it. He had an .850 OPS from 2007-2011.
  4. No one was comparing Dwight to Drew, for one. I know his stats for the first four years, this is what this about, not the time where he was admittedly over the hill. He was an offensive powerhouse with the Red Sox, the stats side with me. Why can't the Drew hate crew ever just recognize credit, and give credit where it's due. Most of us on the Drew defense team admit he was junk for last last part of 2010, and for the entirety of the 2011. That's because the stats aren't lying. Just like they don't lie that he was one of the best RF in baseball for a goo 3 years with the Red Sox, and a huge part of the world series run on top of that. I'm still waiting for some stats. Bring it.
  5. Still waiting to hear actual stats that show Drew to suck, rather than a bunch of baby-boomers waiting for the days of the Dirt Dogs to return.
  6. I'd like to see a rational argument from any one of you that actually provides stats, but I fear I'll never get the chance to see that happen.
  7. He played on average 130 games, I'm content with that. The Sox knew he was fragile when they got him.
  8. No, he was above average in 4 of his 5 seasons, and elite in 2 of those. Don't even try.
  9. I stand corrected.
  10. What are you talking about, Joe Torre was one of the best offensive catchers in the 60s and early 70s. His career OPS was .817, the same as Johnny Bench, and his career OPS+ was 128, two points higher than Bench. He could very easily be a HOFer.
  11. I don't think SBs have anything to do with wOBA, it's weighted on-base average, but what you said that defense is what keeps those low OPS guys' WAR is true. UZR factors in very heavily, especially in fangraphs' version of WAR.
  12. No one ever appreciated the fact that he made up for his injured time with awesome play when healthy. Yeah he sucked in his final season, but that shouldn't win out over 4 seasons of being one of the better offensive outfielders in the league. From 2007-2010 his line was .270/.377/.476 (120 OPS+). With those numbers, only playing 130 games per season doesn't really matter.
  13. OBP and ability to advance on the basepaths are what seems to give the most offensive value. Guys who have low OPS can have a great WAR if they're efficient base stealers.
  14. Totally agree here. I hate how everyone's so quick to forget this was the best team in baseball for a large portion of the year. From the way some of the members here are talking, you'd think they lost 100 games. Off-topic, your avatar rocks, I lol every time I see it.
  15. Hard to take these Drew threads seriously, might has well lock this one, I think the original poster knows that these JD Drew fights get out of hand all the time as well. Just look at his post history.
  16. The last post in this thread was 6 months ago, aren't you the ******* who said that Rangers fan who died trying to catch a baseball purposely fell over the wall to get some camera time 'not knowing it would kill him'?
  17. He was pretty much the opposite of Ali, that's what made their fights so awesome. He was aggressive and like you said, he had didn't have finesse, he would just come at his opponent until the fight was finished. This is sad, I hope there is a miracle, but realistically, since it does sound like this is a final stage, it probably won't happen. Sad too, he's one of the greatest boxers of all time.

  19. I would not pay anything like that for him, but there's always a right price.
  20. He's going to get years dude, no way he gets under 8 years. Plus, he's the best offensive player (discounting Barry Bonds) since Ted Williams, and will retire one of the best ever to play the game. I could definitely see him being an effective offensive weapon into his late 30s, or even 40s.
