  1. I totally forgot about that. It explained everything, but I'm not sure Dice-K is as done as Colon was.
  2. he meant 1865-1871. He's got a Pud Galvin rookie card, and a Wheaties box with the Knickerbockers on it.
  3. Agreed with your previous 2 posts, I would also be open to the idea if the price is right.
  4. Depends, even if he is good, if he's got the same issues he did over the last four years, then he's definitely not coming back. If he seems like a completely different pitcher, even if he's not spectacular, but still a reliable starting pitcher, I wouldn't be surprised to see the FO give it some thought.
  5. Dice K at 100% is a very solid pitcher, and I think that's reasonable if he comes back to 100%, I'm just not putting my money on that happening. I like the Sox rotation, especially if they add one of the two big starters that have been mentioned around here, Jackson and Buehrle. Lester>Beckett>Buccholz>Buehrle/Jackson>Dice-K sounds like a pretty solid rotation if Dice is healthy.
  6. He's been a legit starter, but I think that implies that he'll be somehow improved from recent performance. I've defended Dice during his tenure here as much as anyone, but not because he's reliable.
  7. I don't know how you could expect much from Dice K, that sounds more like wishful thinking than foreseeing to me.
  8. I'm kidding, really, one play doesn't make a player, regardless of it's impact. If Ted Williams dropped a easy fly ball that would have got the Red Sox into the World Series had he caught it, he'd still be the best hitter in the history of baseball, he could do that 20 years in a row and he'd be the best hitter in baseball history. Hell, Brett Favre is the King of throwing interceptions in the worst possible scenarios. How do you think someone with that kind of talent, with those monster stats only produced one super bowl ring? You could make a very strong case that he's the best QB of all time, could you not? I agree, bad moments and choking do not make you any less of a player, especially in this case. I think it's a great idea.
  9. Maybe Ad Gon can coach him on how to field a ground ball.
  10. Couldn't help but think this is what would happen, news breaks then a couple days later he passes away. RIP Smokin' Joe, one of the best.
  11. Bzzzzzt! 3) Once you have the pitcher's expected W%, you compare it to that of a replacement level player's and multiply by innings pitched per 9.
  12. 100% agree with this. Even with how good he played when he was healthy, I do realize that it doesn't mean that all those missed games disappear. I get that.
  13. Beckpedaling Jacko is backpedaling.
  14. RBIs aren't overrated, they're useless. Joe Carter was good, and put up HOF numbers, but RBIs isn't why.
  15. No one's mad, well I'm not. I'm discussing. I'm making sound, logical arguments. My opponent not so much. He wasn't just a sabermetrics wet dream, he was a normal stats wet dream, as are most sabermetric wet dreams. He was one of the best RF from 2007 to now, and one of the most underrated players in baseball.
  16. Us being unrelaxed is your delusion, sorry. I'm discussing, not ranting. I'm making logical arguments, and your side is spewing foolish nonsense. If you want to factor in the full 5 years, but don't want to factor in his average OPS in those five years, that's hypocritical. I think I rest my case, whether or not you guys agree, the stats side with me.
  17. There's no reasoning with Drew haters. Everyone on internet baseball forums knows about the Drew threads, and it's funny because the only people who think Drew sucks or is below average are the same guys who think RBIs are a valid stat.
  18. Distorted, cherry-picker stats. This is almost comical how you guys can actually view your argument as rational.
