  1. They said a payroll increase is coming but I wouldn't put anything past the Pohlads. And I do remember Victory Sports, they allowed us the watch one VSO broadcast per week on Sundays for free, and then they stopped that.
  2. I swear to god. They are filthy rich, and they refuse to pay for a winning team. It disgusts me.
  3. Someone who knows how big a bunch of cheapskates the Pohlads are? Awesome! And I don't know how to answer your question, as the whole roof thing makes no sense for baseball. Wasn't that the original gripe for building the Metrodome in the first place? Rhetorical question, of course it was. Makes no sense.
  4. Of course I will try. Target Field looks marvelous. Twins are my second favorite team, that Joe Maker (and his sideburns)
  5. Hey, I live in Minnesota, so I hear you man on the cold thing. I dunno who you actually are, so I'll just say my hello : )
  6. Work ethic only gets you so far, unfortunately. That's why guys like Tyler Hansborough - I know, basketball, but it's still a proper example - will never make it as a star at the professional level. There has to be some ability to make it in the big leagues in absolutely any sport. Of course, talent without work ethic works the same way.
  7. Of course he will, and catchers also switch over to new positions, like DH and first base, even Johnny Bench did. Johnny Bench caught four about 3 times as many years as Mauer's been in the league as well, you know. 17 Major League seasons, and all but two with 100 or more games. Was his 2009 season not worthy of him being labeled among the two best players in baseball for that season? That's all I'm saying, and I'm also saying that I believe he can have another season of a high caliber, like 2009. 30 home runs isn't out of the question anymore, and like I said, he worked on his upper body while he was rehabilitating, which would explain the additional power. No one's going to punch his ticket to Cooperstown when he's only played 5 legitimate seasons, one of those with under 500 PA. As for the Ichiro thing, BA in general is a stat that involves luck, that's why statistics like OBP and OPS are more valuable for arguments sake. However, when catchers rarely ever win batting titles, and Mauer's won three, I think that it adds to his value.
  8. .932, .920, .889, .870 are the four best OPS for Johnny Bench, Mauer has already had 1.031 and .937 in four seasons with 500 or more PA, so I think that damages your argument about Bench, just to clear that up. Also, the 2007 season was injury plagued, and like I said, he didn't find his power stroke until this season. He was an elite player, since his first batting title, that's all I'm saying. However, now that he has added power, and has built his ability to hit the ball as well, he's arguably the best player in baseball. It's a simple point, don't over-analyze it. As for the Ichiro argument, he still lost the batting race to Mauer 3 times, it's that simple, again, don't over-analyze, it doesn't matter how many times he's hit over .350, it matters that he got beat by Mauer in three batting races in 5 years, again, it's really simple.
  9. That's where the word potentially comes into play, and yes he was, a catcher with as much offensive ability and Gold Glove ability doesn't come around every year. Johnny Bench's best season was his 1970 season, and Joe Mauer's 2009 is one of the best seasons a catcher's ever had, Johnny Bench's 1970 season included. You can't say he's Johnny Bench yet, but you can legitimately say that he's HOF caliber, and he's still only 26 years old.
  10. Morneau is consistently an offensive powerhouse who hits 30-35 bombs and typically has an OBP around .370. He's still an elite offensive power, but you're right, he's not Joe Mauer. No one is. I think Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols are the two players you argue as the best players in baseball, especially given that Mauer has found a power stroke, and his batting average has gone up. Mauer is definitely HOF caliber, and could easily retire as the greatest catcher ever to play the game. Catchers winning batting titles? He's done it thrice, that's unreal.
  11. The Twins will pull out all stops to ensure they keep Joe Mauer, I don't know what part of that hasn't set in. This is possibly the greatest player to ever wear a Twins uniform, and you think we're not going to pay big bucks to keep him here? I don't know that he will stay here for 13 million a year, that was a bad example, but I do think that he's willing to stay here for less than what the other teams offer. I think the Twins break the bank to keep Mauer in Minnesota, I really do.
  12. Neither does Morneau staying there, he too is one of the best players in baseball, but he could have got huge money elsewhere. We're talking about an increase from out mid-sixty-million dollars to closer to 90 million dollar payroll. You're right, I don't see the Twins spending as much as the Sox or Yanks, they simply don't have that kind of money. However, we have the advantage of a brand new ballpark, and that we're his home state, and his favorite team. Believe it or not, lots of players will play based on location. And I think it will probably be more than Morneau money, because he's just that, a catcher, who is the best at his position, as well as being able to hit .365 and 30 home runs. We will spend big on Mauer. Won't be the 20 million that the Yanks or Sox offer, no.
  13. The Twins said they would expand the payroll to keep Mauer as well, I think that was lost, so I might has well say it again. They're not going to let arguably the best player in baseball get away. He's a catcher who will win a Gold Glove for the rest of his career, will bat .330 and is capable now of hitting 30 home runs in a shortened season.
  14. The Twins are expanding their payroll significantly, according to the team, and Joe Mauer is priority number one. He's not going anywhere, and he even said that he'd take a lesser amount to stay with the Twins. He doesn't want to play anywhere else, because he's from here. Joe Mauer isn't going anywhere, and if I have to make sure of this I will. Myself >: \ Just thought I'd clear that up, that it's very very unlikely
