  1. Agree about Gomez. But the guy was AAA MVP last year, and I would guess they are trying to trade him. Nava is expendable because they have too many outfielders with he and Bradley on the team. However, if you figure Bradley gets sent down after 20 games, they need another outfielder, which puts Nava, and maybe Sweeney, in play. They may be trying to work out a deal with Sweeney, where they stash him in AAA for a month. I don't think they'll deal Ciriaco. He's their wild card off the bench. Plus he kills the Yankees. Big plus for him. When Drew returns, Iggy goes to Pawtucket to play full time, Ciriaco infield backup.
  2. No they don't. But more than you think are overqualified to be in the baseball business. It's just a hobby to them. Some of those guys in the FO started off as mail deliverers with no salary. The high level stats specialists are usually hired as consultants on the cheap. An occasional one shows up in chat forums. The problem with Bradley is we didn't have the same information as the FO about what his hold up was--the media didn't explain it until last night. It's a simple problem--he's not on the 40 man roster, and they have to clear space for him on the 40 man roster before he can make the 25 man roster. Somebody should have leaked that to the media sooner, because it made the Red Sox look bad delaying this kid while not delaying everybody else. The one guy who looks good in this is Farrell, who made his view about Bradley evident early. He wants him.
  3. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/2013/03/29/bradley-waits-number/fbXmBc9fHIp33Y9GxON1PM/story.html Abraham says they are trying to get Bradley on the 40 man roster so he can make the 25 man roster. That's been the holdup all along--too bad the media didn't explain it sooner. They have to DFA or deal somebody. I would guess they are not going to 60 day DL Morales, with just a bad back. Nava is the logical alternative, as Abraham mentions at the close of the article. He's expendable with Carp and Bradley aboard, and they could well be trying to trade him right now before the Sunday deadline. Abraham notes he has never made the starting day roster.
  4. Iggy is your typical good field, no-hit SS--the kind that abounds on Championship teams. You can't underestimate all-world defense at SS. Ask any pitcher. Ever play SS? It's like standing in the middle of the Sahara desert. Very lonely place. Range is everything. And Iggy is as fluid as molten silver. That said, I'd like to see Ciriaco at SS in the Yankee series--because he kills the Yankees with his bat. The Drews get hurt all the time. Cherington has to learn not to sign guys who get hurt regularly. Those guys need their own hospital.
  5. Cherington said tonite he expects Bradley to be "on the plane heading north on Sunday, barring any unforeseen circumstances." What the heck is he talking about? What's different vs Carp and the rest of the team? I guess maybe he's talking about the 40 man roster--he has to get him on that roster--which means he has to DFA somebody or 60 day DL Morales. That has to be the holdup. They need him in LF for all 3 games of that Yankee series. I don't care who is pitching. I would also like to see Ciriaco starting at SS over Iggy. Ciriaco is a Yankee killer.
  6. Heyman just tweeted me back about Bradley making the cut game 1: "looks positive for him. we shall see."
  7. Heyman just tweeted me back: "looks positive for him. we shall see."
  8. Yeah, that would make Silverman's tweet nonsense. No use coming up game 3. Heyman says he's up game 1, based on MLB TV ticker--just came out. 20 up, 20 down makes most sense. looks like a win, win that way.
  9. The sports ticker on MLB TV just said Heyman reporting Bradley will start season with Red Sox game 1. I tweeted Jon for confirmation. He has his ways of scooping the Boston writers.
  10. Can't believe Wainright got $100 mil for 5 years. 31 and coming off arm surgery. Not yet back to where he was. Ells isn't worth close to that. He's not durable, and he's not a great leadoff hitter. His power is in question.
  11. I mentioned in another thread, Silverman tweets they might bring him up and start him game 3 in Yankee stadium against a RHP. They may not start him against CC and Pettite--even though he has shown he can hit ML LHd pitching. They need him in LF in Yankee Stadium for 3 games--pure and simple. And that short RF porch makes a hitter out of almost anybody from the LHd side. The handling of Bradley--or mishandling--is beginning to resemble the clueless manager search.
  12. The latest in the Bradley soap opera is they will bring him up for game 3 in Yankee stadium--after CC and Pettite have pitched the first 2 games. They have no confidence already in the kid to hit lefthanders, despite hitting Lee and others. Not much hope for this organization the way they are mishandling this kid. No balls. This thing is beginning to look like the manager search, all over again.
  13. '' That's what they'll do if he sticks. 20 up, 20 down. You figure Ortiz will have decided he can play by 20 games.
  14. The Bradley holdup seems to be more getting him on the 40 man roster than Sweeney accepting a AAA assignment. They have to DFA somebody off the roster, or put Morales on the 60 day DL. Mortenson not a factor. He has made the team.
  15. Iggy has shown great skills at SS so far. Very fluid. He deserves a chance to show what he can do in a saner atmosphere than last year, and it looks like he will get it. Bradley deserves the same, after showing impressive all around skills rare in a Red Sox player recently. It's tough to think positive with this team, what with the piss poor organization they still have (save for Farrell and the coaches--impressive so far). They are fumbling the ball right now on Bradley, showing a characteristic lack of boldness. They seem to have lost any sense of urgency or priority with winning.
  16. Funny business going on this morning with Bradley, Mortenson and Sweeney. Looks like they are trying to work something out keeping all 3. Or rather keeping ties to Sweeney and Mortenson with one in minors. Either is expendable--especially Sweeney, who is a professional backup outfielder if there ever was one. Late last night, the word was they had cut Sweeney and were keeping Bradley. Now not so clear. Can't understand why they keep Bradley dangling. That decision is being made above Cherington--for sure. You might expect Ben to be counting beans 7 years out, but winning now and selling tickets would appear to be overriding factors. Plus Farrell clearly wants the kid. He would like to go into NY guns blazing. If they can't beat the Yankees in their present shape, they never will. If they send Bradley down at the last minute for a player like Sweeney, they will get killed for it PR-wise.
  17. yeah--Bowden-ESPN tweets a source saying Bradley staying. Sweeney was cut.
  18. Another overpriced FA strikeout for the Mets--which explains where they are right now. The days when Epstein still had his head between his ears.
  19. Nava has a nice swing batting LHd, and is a patient hitter. That's it for him.
  20. This guy has already hit his ceiling, and it's not very high. He's a backup at best. Avoid guys that Billy Beane trades.
  21. Bradley continues to show why he's one of their best players--right now. Drives in a run with a single--against a lefty, then scores on a hit with a nice slide at home. I would put this kid in RF, move Vic to LF, and see what he does. He could be a star. Iggy looks great at SS. Very fluid. Major league, if he can hit above .230. He needs to be more selective at the plate.
  22. 3 batters in a row at the bottom of the lineup made outs swinging at the first pitch. Iggy to lead off the inning. That's terrible. it's an example of these guys hitting as individuals, and not as a team. They haven't learned. It's the organization. It just plain sucks. They don't teach team play. The pitching looks good, but don't get your hopes up. This still isn't a team.
  23. no decision tonite on Bradley vs Sweeney. wow. this is a no brainer. Cherington will not last as GM. Does not have the makeup.
  24. Bard to AA Portland; Holt, Gomez to AAA, Drew 7 day concussion DL. Ortiz running in the OF. He can't be ready opening day, so he'll be DLed. They have until midnite on Sweeney, but why wait. Maybe more Yankee fodder. Their immediate concern should be that opening series in NY. The Yankees are vulnerable right now, and they should be going in aiming to sweep with their best lineup. Farrell sounds like he would like Bradley, but he isn't the final word.
