  1. This club has holes--to be sure. The RHd hitting in the OF is bad enough to encourage every team to start a lefthander--ANY lefthander--against them. One solution is a banger like Hanley Ramirez at SS. He is sure to rebound the 2nd half. Get him while he's cold.
  2. Theo needs to get off his ass and get a Rhd hitter with some thump. Hanley Ramirez, anyone? He is due for a 2nd half rebound.
  3. The Yankees have had a soft first half schedule. That will even out in the 2nd half.
  4. Five pitches and out in the first inning was a killer against Lee. Then the Beckett brainfart against .200 hitter Brown. The club needs some RHd hitting in the OF badly.
  5. Add Millwood to the mix. He's probably their best 5th starter option right now.
  6. RF, as in K-A-L-I-S-H
  7. The Sox have another "kid" in Pawtucket who is tearing up AAA. His name is Millwood. Remember him? What are you waiting for, Theo? He's better than Lackey or Wakefield.
  8. Ain't gonna happen. The FO has to be against it. And Tito is a good soldier. Asking a first baseman to play the outfield is nuts--especially one with a $100+ million contract.
  9. Millwood right now is probably better than Lackey and Wakefield, but there is what can best be described as "inertia" with respect to underachieving veterans on the Red Sox. They are like that battery bunny.
  10. How long did it take Lester to get where he is? First year he sucked. Takes awhile for a pitcher to get adjusted to the Show. So far so good for this kid. He sure is better than Lackey and Wakefield. And a helluva lot cheaper.
  11. Dodgers will get sold. McCourt borrowed money to buy the Dodgers. Now he's borrowed more money to pay the team salaries. The guy has no money of his own. He is about to be foreclosed.
  12. This club can't afford to have two of its top three starters out. The rest of them suck. "Lax approach" to bad teams? Chalk that up to Tito, and his lack of winning intensity. He usually gets serious in September. His problem is he is an overly cheerful guy.
  13. What the Sox need right now is another good starter. With two of their big three starters out, they are losing to lowly teams. Wake, Lackey, Aceves are not doing the job. They are losing tonite, and could be swept in Pittsburgh if Miller can't hold the fort. Imagine losing all those games to SD and Pitt. $150 million dollar team. Meanwhile, the Yankees are cleaning up--at home again, where they have been most of the first half.
  14. One of the Red Sox weaknesses is their right handed hitting. Teams throw left handed pitchers at them for that reason--they would prefer to see the RHd hitter in any platoon--especially in the OF. And the LHd hitters generally don't hit LHd pitching as well.
  15. A lot of the old threads are outdated, and timely new threads draw more posts. Nuf said.
  16. Good point about defense. I agree Papi sits. Besides, if AdGon ever got hurt in RF, the Red Sox FO would be kicking themselves all over Fenway.
  17. Reyes or Hanley Ramirez, if available. Hanley is cheaper. More of a power hitter. Reyes has been having a Superman contract year. Iglesias is a highly tradeable commodity right now. Everybody knows he's great defensively. And he MIGHT improve offensively. Plus he's cheap cheap. You don't figure the Mets to trade Reyes to the Yankees. Most likely he stays in the NL out west. Theo should make a play for either, though Reyes may want too much money.
  18. K/9 tells the story. No more pep in his fastball. Epstein should have seen that coming. Lackey is a FA mistake of Mets proportions.
  19. Please change the title of this thread to "John Lackey announces his retirement". Epstein needs a boost.
  20. One big difference between the Yankees and the Red Sox: the Yankees almost never lose to teams like this--they build their record up against the weak teams and stand off against the good ones. The Red Sox always seem to be at their best against the good teams, and fall asleep in the dugout with Tito against the bad ones. True that their back of the rotation starters faced the Padres with Beckett and Buchholz out, but maybe that tells you something about their back of the rotation.
  21. I'll throw this one out since I've read Hanley has reached the point in Florida where he might--just might--be expendable. And we all know that Epstein has an ongoing love affair with the guy who got away while Theo was wearing his gorilla suit. The Red Sox have the money and the players to make this happen, starting with Iglesias, who would fit right in with the Marlins. Some wonder whether Hanley has outgrown the SS position. And his bat has been quiet so far this year. But with Jeter an old man, you wonder if Hanley might be on the Yankees' radar, and that's enough to get the Red Sox interested. The Yanks have some serious aging problems on the LHS of their infield, and sooner or later they will open their bottomless pocketbook again.
  22. Drew retire before the end of his $14 million contract? Are you kidding? His wife would kill him.
  23. Cameron is making what? $6 million or 8 million? He ain't going anywhere.
  24. Fortunately, game management is overrated. If teams had to rely on managerial skills to win games, they would be in a lot of trouble.
  25. Is Pena still wearing a batting helmut in the outfield? He is living proof that Epstein is mortal.
