  1. Drew is a good player who runs hot and cold hitting-wise. But I think we'll see Beltran out there the 2nd half unless somebody else gets him. The Mets might keep Reyes, but they won't keep Beltran. And the Red Sox badly need another RHd power bat in the lineup.
  2. Cameron is one of those Red Sox players a Globe writer alluded to when he said there were players on the team who looked out of shape. Lackey was another. I thought Cameron had put on weight vs a couple of years ago. Maybe that was Papi's problem, too. Papi seems to have gotten himself in great shape this year--hard for a DH.
  3. the internet voting was a joke. you could vote 25 times on mlb.com. then they sent you an email saying thank you for voting, why not vote another 25 times? That explains why the Yankees have so many players on the team. They have a lot of fanatical fans in NY who loaded the ballotbox. Anybody ever been to a Red Sox-Yankees game in Ft Myers? Busloads of Yankee fans come in from Ft Lauderdale. hard to get a ticket gameday.
  4. well, at least he doesn't have to pitch that freakin' all-star "game".
  5. Just heard Finn and KP Dupont talking about Lackey. Dupont says Lackey looked out of shape when he pulled up at 2b after hitting a double a couple of starts ago. He also said he thought a number of other $$ Red Sox also looked out of shape. Well, I said that after their terrible start. And it goes back to the manager, who does not run a tight ship--to put it mildly. In some ways, this club resembles the country club days of Tom Yawkey--with more talent.
  6. See my thread on the Lackey for Zito trade proposal. I don't think the Giants would be that stupid, but I would do it in a minute.
  7. OK. Chime in. One of those brilliant scribes at the Globe has proposed a Lackey for Zito deal. For all the obvious reasons. Epstein would probably buy into this deal, but I don't think the Giants would--Lackey's elbow has become suspect. At least that's what the article says. Something is certainly suspect about Lackey.
  8. Papi is probably overpaid right now as a DH, even for the year he is having--so far. But you look at VMart who is getting $12m to mostly DH, and you wonder where this market is going. I don't know if they will give Papi much more than $6-8M for a year or two. They will say goodbye if he wants more. He will be hard-pressed to repeat his production next year. They need another RHd power bat in that unbalanced lineup. Something more than a Cameron or McDonald.
  9. You can see Lackey's problem plain as day. He brainfarts too many letter high meatballs. They are just waiting for his mistakes.
  10. Theo has just acknowledged they need another RHd bat in the outfield. Beltran, get your bags packed.
  11. ha. you never saw him play the outfield. "play" isn't the right word.
  12. why is this thread title allowed? every time I see it I think Drew has retired. this is crap. stop allowing phony threads.
  13. Beltran just hit another homer. Don't count him out--they need a RHd bat in the OF.
  14. ..and Lester threw 120 pitches! How good does that get?
  15. Oh my. Lester must be ecstatic about that lineup.
  16. Last night, that team wouldn't have hit anybody. They are in a slump--as a team. In the late innings, in a tight game, their leadoff batter made no attempt to get on base. The team just has too much hubris to play for one run. A direct reflection on the manager.
  17. The killer has been Kalish's injury. He would be up by now playing RF. Nothing has gone right for them in RF this year. To risk AdGon in RF last night was folly. Did you see him stretch for Utley's blast up against the fence? They are damn lucky he wasn't injured on that play. Hopefully that's the last we see of that experiment. I'm reading Drew's eye cleared up and he took batting practice. So why wasn't he playing RF last night?
  18. when a team is in a slump, the best way to get out of it is to play smallball. GET ON BASE.
  19. sounds pretty dumb.
  20. Papi was a bust tonite.
  21. swingin' away. nobody trying to get on base.
