You are not alone on this. Some of us have learned ethics over the years. Backing out of a contractual obligation is clearly unethical. In any field of endeavor. So I don't care for team design that prevents a player from earning what a team freely agreed to pay him. At the same time I want that $22. Mil gone as soon as possible. I am conflicted but in the end I believe that the Sox should do what they agreed to do.

Again, from what I have seen over the past two years ( maybe a couple of dozen games) he has shown no glaring weakness defensively at 1st. I trust my eyes.

He makes all the plays at 1st base. I don't see his defense as lacking in any way, so far.

It's true a700 says few complimentary things about Porcello. It's also true that a700 has repeatedly said many true things about Porcello as he has done with this post. Porcello doe not look ready to go or anywhere near it.

I am not so sure Kimbrel will be anxious to move on to another team. His kid is really ill so my guess his FA status is not even on his mind now. Also, his kid's Doctors and the best pediatric science is in Boston. We will see.

Of course we all understand that spring training stats mean s***. Right? Still, Price looked dominant with command and velocity. It will be pretty interesting if he can stay healthy all season.

Okay so you believe that Vazquez can still make it to elite level. Maybe so. However, what is to prevent Swihart from achieving a similar goal? That fact that he is further away from being elite does not preclude his ability to improve significantly. Unless he has some drastic deformity or incurable flaw in his mechanics I see no reason that Swihart could not become a very good catcher on both sides of the ball. Given the chance, that is. He is already a superior athlete and most likely will continue to be so.

Yeah I don't see that happening unless he is hurt. Although Cora and DD could become ruthless and just dump him, I guess.

Hmm. I just wonder why you think Swihart "won't reach Vasquez level" defensively. And how is it not likely that he can be an average catcher with a pretty good stick?

Let's just say Leon were released. How Leon do you believe it would take before he was claimed by another team? I'd say he would be snatched right up.

I've seen over 2/3 of the games. The defense has been kind of crappy but it's hard to assess exactly what we have for defense with all these strange faces on the field. I'll say this, Devers looks to have problems getting to balls when he has to move laterally. The Mexican League 2nd baseman has looked week in the field, too.

Yeah, it will be interesting. Swihart will need a legit chance to shine or fall on his face. Salty was given lots of chances. Swihart has speed, a clearly superior hitting tool, and overall superior athleticism.
