  1. This is the best definition of an "elite" pitcher. Think Pedro.
  2. This. Can we agree that this is the standard for a "breakout season"? Using the above as a standard, the Sox have, in my opinion, only two players likely to break camp that would qualify. Bard and Hirmida. Given that it is more likely that Bard will have an opportunity to make an impact, I'll take Bard. It's not like the Sox have a Perdoia or Ellsbury slated to have major playing time.
  3. "Honest question". Is Beckett an "elite" pitcher?
  4. Way to go Scott!
  5. Go Rams!
  6. Too bad he's a Raider's fan.
  7. Sounds better all the time. Go U.S.A.!
  8. Given what his contract status "appeared to be" when acquired, he was going to garner attention. He was, and is, a lightning rod of attention. Most people don't take into account that other players at that time signed bloated contracts and have not fulfilled fans expectations. Add to that the hype of his ability when drafted, expectations may have been just a little too high. The Philly s*** did not help. The media has only amplified expectations and the results. One way or the other. The bottom line is that he has been sort of a right field Wade Boggs. I can live with that. One not have a man crush to appreciate 5 tool talent, after all.
  9. I don't follow Olympic Hockey. Who are the favorites? Russians? Czechs? Spud fail. Spell check (lol!) fail.
  10. Bob Costa is the balls. He takes no quarter. Dyed hair, colored contacts and all, he's the goods.
  11. "I feel your pain".
  12. I saw his interview yesterday. He has a paunch! Otherwise he looks the same. He credits his wife for the gain in weight. He also said he has no confidence that he'll be able to keep the weight on when the workouts begin.
  13. Dumb penalty leads to a Swiss power play goal. 3-1 with about 8 minutes to go.
  14. Walks are good. Exciting too.
  15. Merloni is obviously an idiot.
  16. This is interesting. I heard a discussion of Drew' value the other day on WEEI. Merloni (not bashing Drew) said that he wished Drew would be more aggressive with RISP. He pointed out that Drew should swing more on 1-0, 2-0, and 3-1 counts. Maybe if he would do this, his RBI totals would climb. .213 BA is not so good with RISP in my opinion. Que the "don't make outs" argument.
  17. The Free-style skiing was intense. Turns out that several members of the U.S. team are wearing Red Sox tee shirts and swag while competing and attending the opening ceremony. NBC made a big deal of it. "Red Sox Nation is well represented at the Olympics". I love Bob Costas.
  18. I've never had a desire to go to France. But I know many people that have. They all loved it. Someday I hope to be in a position to tour the Alps on a motorcycle. France will be on my list of places to see.
  19. Physical health aside, I believe the big question is where is his head at?
