It was 4 runs in 7 innings. (Plus if our offense was worth it's weight that shouldn't be a problem to match)
Plus, to my knowledge, Dempster doesn't have the caustic/toxic personality Beckett did. In addition, while I didn't agree with the deal at first, the deal is a relatively short term one with money we had growing on trees at the time. If the money wasn't spent on Dempster, would it have been spent somewhere better or just lining the owners pockets? We're not on the hook for too much and it won't effect the future rotation for when young guys come in.
It's not the greatest signing but I doubt it'll be what ruins a team that had the 2012 the Sox did.
