  1. Baseball America put this on the "Hot Sheet" today: "HELIUM -- Roman Anthony, OF, Red Sox. Anthony’s numbers this season might not jump off the page, but scouts who have seen him believe the ingredients are there for a potentially special player."
  2. Las Vegas Golden Knights. That has a ring to it.
  3. Maybe. We don't typically see guys come completely out of nowhere, but he could end up being a middle reliever or something.
  4. There's already an MiLB stadium there that the A's are thinking of moving to in the meantime. Probably few day games which really only affects getaway days.
  5. Yeah, MLB wouldn't want to be associated with gambling at this point. THIS POST BROUGHT TO YOU BY DRAFT KINGS!!!!
  6. Guerrero is NOT a starter. He is a pure reliever but can be a good one. Wikelman had a horrible April. He pitched well last time out. Due to his age, I think he's out of the system before he makes it to MLB. De La Rosa is not even in the Top 60 of prospects. He's an org guy. Walter is a fringe starter, probably a reliever as his velo has ticked down. Mata is a pen arm IMO.
  7. I don't think many people realistically think they'll make a run at the division. Make a run at the Wild Card? Maybe. The rotation just has to be ok. Sale/Whitlock/Bello/Kluber/Pivetta/Paxton (take one out) is good enough to be average. If the offense hits and the bullpen doesn't turn into a faucet, they'll be fine.
  8. Haven't heard anything.
  9. Winckowski and Houck are bullpen arms. Whitlock is an unknown largely due to his health. Should he be sent to the pen for this reason? IDK. Bello and Drohan both look good at the moment. Others of note: Noah Dean probably is moved back to the pen and sees a Winckowski type role. Elmer Rodriguez Cruz is probably a future 4-5 starter. Luis Perales has the ceiling of a top of the rotation starter, but just hasn't had much in game time. One scouting report showed him as a future closer maybe.
  10. Joely is coming back. Sherriff is pitching well in AAA.
  11. Oakland isn't great, but the surrounding area in the West Bay is nice. Oakland didn't have a huge attendance problem until the owners really started cheapening out on the team. When Fischer bought the team, he stopped maintaining the Coliseum almost immediately and just let it turn to s***. The Raiders moving back to the Oakland ruined it as a baseball stadium as well. It's no surprise that fans stopped going. He was holding out for public funding and got it out in Vegas. Dude put the A's franchise as collateral on a separate loan and has no money.
  12. @PortlandSeaDogs CJ Liu's complete game 7-inning no-hitter on Friday has earned him Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors
  13. @PeteAbe #RedSox announced they returned James Paxton from his rehab assignment. What this means (and I should have been more clear) is that the rehab assignment is over. He'll be with the team here in Atlanta and will be added to the active roster and as was reported yesterday, he'll likely face the Cardinals this weekend.
  14. The exceptions: Shugart, Thompson, Broadway and Mosqueda. None of them are great options. Shugart and Broadway may be ok at some point. Sherriff (LHP) is pitching decently. Maybe they try giving him a call at some point.
  15. I wouldn't move Drohan just to get Mata into the pen. Those moves are independent to me.
  16. Maybe more full time AB's now for a UTIL role later? I know they were trying to get him OF reps last year, but he has none so far this year. He's been 2b/SS only so far in '23.
  17. They also weren't going to re-sign or QO Vaz. It was a good deal.
  18. It's the right move, Bleier just isn't a very good pitcher at the moment.
  19. I think Mata is still in line for a bullpen role. Most of the bullpen guys in WOO could be released at anytime and nothing of value would be lost.
  20. Lefty specialist Richard Bleier's 2023 splits: LHB 1278 OPS (597 career), 4.95 xFIP RHB 475 OPS (774 career), 3.91 xFIP
  21. The concern is that the LHPs they are brining out of the pen right now aren't great. Bleier is DFA worthy. Bernardino is here because of a DFA. Joely is still in ST mode in AAA, but he's a better option than either of those two. His FB was slow in his first appearance, but ticked back up on Saturday. Not sure how long they will keep him down in WOO if Bleier continues to look worrisome.
  22. I agree about the "not sitting part" which is why my last sentence suggests the reason for them keeping him in AAA is full time at bats.
  23. Replacing guys like Kiké, Arroyo and Mondesi via FA shouldn't be a tough task. It's replacing upper echelon guys that is hard to do.
  24. Aldo Ramirez: hasn't pitched since he was traded Jay Groome: was in line to be SDP's 5th starter, now has 7.99 ERA in AAA Frank German: sucked at AAA for CHW was DFA'd Jacob Wallace: repeating AA, 7.84 BB/9 Connor Seabold: 5.30 ERA in COL pen, top 6% BB rate but everything else is mediocre to bad
  25. Nah, it'd be so that he stays down this year because they ostensibly have Mondesi, but can put Hamilton on the taxi squad NEXT season when Mondesi is gone. Then he could stay on the taxi squad for '24, '25 and '26 as a bench guy. Is it THE reason they are using to keep him down? No clue. At this point, I can't see him being worse than Dalbec. He also doesn't have a split vs LHP/RHP this season. I'd put him against LHP instead of Valdez for sure. Maybe they just really value him a lot and want to give him full time at bats and are willing to give Valdez part time at bats?
