  1. My concern is that it's a waste of a bullpen arm if the reliever can't throw again between the appearance. Also, only going through 9 batters each maybe gets you into the 5th innning most days. That's just not good enough.
  2. We can be thankful they didn't get their number 1 priority Jose Abreu (531 OPS).
  3. Yes, none of us are in Bloom's brain. We don't really know what he's going to do.
  4. Bassitt's QO was tough. I can see why the Sox didn't want that. Gausman wasn't attached to a QO that offseason he was a FA.
  5. Team would look much better if it was Eflin instead of Kluber. Maybe should have offered him more $$$ rather than trying to stay under the cap?
  6. The 3 HR's that Drohan gave up: Scott Kingery age 29, 1,127 MLB PA's Weston Wilson age 28, 3rd season in AAA Jim Haley age 28, 2nd season in AAA These guys have been around. Drohan is seeing more experienced competition. Time to adjust.
  7. Right now, he just likes the DFA guys it seems.
  8. Why compare a HOF pitcher to what the Sox currently have. How is that a fair comparison?
  9. It's not my fault that you fell into the Dombrowski farm builder comment trope. I think those players are good. I think the Sox development system isn't a dumpster fire like some people believe. Also, don't expect arms to come through the system anytime soon if you look at how Bloom has amassed talent. It's a hitters first org.
  10. He's had a few extra days of rest. Let's see if he can keep the streak going.
  11. It's easy to fall into 1970's scout brain. It's just the terminology that has been around the game for a long time.
  12. Players that have been in the system longer are more likely to be in MLB. Soon, there will be no more DD guys left to promote.
  13. Selling low on Anthony IMO.
  14. @ChrisCotillo Per WooSox, Red Sox released RHP Jake Thompson and INF Edwin Diaz.
  15. @PeteAbe #RedSox announce they optioned LHP Ryan Sherriff to AAA. Opens a spot for Kutter Crawford to come off the IL.
  16. We'll see. Not having a decent starting rotation in 2023 really hurts.
  17. There's a difference between taking pitches to just take pitches and being selective. His bb rate is still low and he's making worse contact than last year.
  18. I think it would depend on who was available. Sandy Alcantara? Zac Gallen? Is it worth emptying the farm? Giolito is probably available and wouldn't empty the farm. (Yorke, Walter, Lugo) He'd be a big upgrade over Kluber.
  19. "Stunning comment about Kyle Hudson coaching Duran on defense--and very credible." This came across as sarcasm to me.
  20. I think good defense combines athleticism, instinct and preparation. I think they are 3 different things.
  21. The question was asked, I responded. If you don't like my answer, I don't know what to tell you. https://theathletic.com/4434579/2023/04/20/jarren-duran-second-chance-red-sox/ On the defensive side, Duran worked diligently last season in the second half and then into this spring with new outfielders coach Kyle Hudson on his pre-pitch routine. Duran, a career infielder who switched to the outfield in 2019, was playing too timidly. “His jumps are a lot better, he’s moving,” Cora said. “One thing we noticed, as an infielder you’re always moving, and he played his whole life in the infield and then in the outfield he was so cautious about moving and it’s the other way around, just get going. You want him to get going, so he’s actually had a great pre-pitch. When the ball is hit he’s moving already.” That’s helped Duran get to more balls and be in a better position even if he takes a less-than-ideal route. If he’s already moving, his speed will help him catch up to the ball. “I was getting stuck because I didn’t want to make the imperfect read so I would wait for the ball and by that time, it was too late,” he said. “They’ve been telling me to be athletic and keep moving and that’s what I’ve been doing.”
  22. Drohan starting for WOO tonight!
  23. This isn't parity, it's because it's early in the season.
  24. I was talking strictly about his defense. He's working with the new Sox OF coach mentioned above.
