  1. Yeah, it's the whole operation. Can't just single out Bloom because we don't have any inside knowledge.
  2. This year's BB/9 is what makes me question the "Bloom is linked to Snell" rumor that I saw. I think it's really just the lazy "Snell played for TB, Bloom used to be in TB, Bloom wants Snell" thing.
  3. I don't think he had a dealer until he got to TOR.
  4. I'd prefer a pitcher that you can count on for more than 120 innings if you're going to be writing a big check.
  5. No chance do they get two top arms like Yamamoto and Snell.
  6. Find a playoff team. That would help his FA chances.
  7. It was DUMB for the Sox to tell Xander that they were not going to deal him. Why tie your hands like that?
  8. I agree that he could be the fallback plan. I don't know enough about him. Seems like a guy who doesn't give up a lot of walks, which is the reason I had Montgomery as the Sox target this season.
  9. Too many other suitors. Aces are in high demand. They won't get this one.
  10. I think he did a good job with the pen (top 10 fWAR). They are just running ragged now because of how horrid the rotation is. Defensively, the Sox are just an embarrassment. Bloom ignored the defensive component of the game and thought that an older and high injury risk rotation could get the team through the season. Instead, the staff fell like dominoes.
  11. Not with this injury, no. Maybe a very late season call up next September.
  12. Schill did get to AA. He was just traded with Brady Anderson for Mike Boddicker (9.1 fWAR in 2.5 years, 2 playoff runs). Was that a good trade for the Sox? It took until '92 for Schilling to really develop. Anderson also was a mediocre guy until he started cycling in '92. I'm not sold that the Sox would have been able to get the most out of Schilling and Clemens hadn't found his steroid hook up by '92. Probably best for all parties that the trade was made.
  13. He had a higher OPS in 2020 than in the first half of 2020. I think he's made changes to his body and his approach at the plate that has harmed his numbers since 2020. Also, his DRS in LF was boosting his fWAR in 2020 while playing with Pillar. He doesn't have that luxury in 2023.
  14. Ask for a little just to get the salary relief. I just don't understand the point of going over by a few million and then not really trying to go for it. Either go way over the CBT or get under. Why half-ass it? With Bloom, I like the plan, but the execution is falling far short...
  15. They would have broke him if he got to Pawtucket. Ed Nottle would have had his arm in a sling.
  16. Seems to be a contact bat who hasn't tapped into his power potential. He'll probably see more time in the OF next year to better utilize his speed. I'm not going to get worked up over A ball numbers though. Seems like AA is a much bigger jump than it ever has been before.
  17. 2004 Red Sox rotation: all drafted elsewhere 2007 Red Sox rotation: Lester 2013 Red Sox rotation: Lester, Buchholz, Dubront 2018 Red Sox rotation: all drafted elsewhere
  18. For all the grief certain posters have taken for being Bloom apologists, we've done a good job on here talking about his faults. The majority of his faults are related to the MLB squad. Developing pitching? Ben and DD couldn't do that either. We haven't had any sort of pitching pipeline since Lester, Paplebon, Buchholz under Theo. Even then, that was really more of a mirage than anything else. The Red Sox have never been great at churning out pitching in my lifetime. It's been a hitter's org: Rice, Lynn, Dewey, Fisk, Boggs, Gator, Burks, Nomar, Mo, Valentin, Pedey, Youk, Betts, Xander, Devers, Beni, JBJ. The list of developed pitchers is far shorter and less impressive.
  19. Difference for me is that Verdugo was healthy and should have been able to reach 3 fWAR due to no fault of his own. Duvall got hurt and won't get to 3 fWAR.
  20. My prediction for this offseason is that the Boston Red Sox will be INTERESTED in Yamamoto, but will not sign him. With Ohtani injured and Urias being a sack of s***, the list of TOTR starters is getting shorter. Sox will get outbid for sure. I'm not sure they even end up with Blake Snell. My guess is the best they do is Jordan Montgomery and Seth Lugo, two competent guys that won't really wow anybody but are an improvement on the trainwreck of 2023.
  21. If the Sox aren't going to be in the playoffs, may as well get a higher draft pick?
  22. Verdugo in 2020 had 1.9 fWAR in only 53 games... Kiké had 4 fWAR in 2021.
  23. Big Bastards of Boston podcast fan ^
  24. He is. Can't build a bullpen though.
  25. 2 is incorrect 4 is underselling the drafting 8 who? like who gives a s*** about a podcast?
