  1. Yeah, there is still a lot of movement left for the 40 man. My guess is that Crag knows he needs to add more players anyway and he sees Wikelman and Perales' upsides. He's going to DFA or trade more guys to make room for other additions. No sense in adding Gambrell et al just to clog up the 40 man now. Likely that one or two may get picked, but Crag hopes that his additions will be more valuable.
  2. We saw enough guys get DFA'd last offseason and get claimed by other orgs. I don't think all 11 would get claimed though.
  3. Yes, they have some marginal trade value. They aren't bringing back what we need to fill out a starting lineup or rotation though.
  4. Crag focused on bat missing ability in his early statements. Maybe an indicator as to why Drohan wasn’t protected and the direction the franchise is moving?
  5. Chris Hatfield “Surprising to me that Shane Drohan was left unprotected. You can squint and see why though - strike-throwing, ability to miss bats, and allowing home runs all regressed significantly in AAA from early dominance in AA. That said, might get plucked in R5.”
  6. I would have let Gillaspie, Llovera, Jacques and Weiss go. Nothing going on there. Gambrell, Drohan and maybe Penrod seem to be more interesting to protect. Easy enough to DFA if they don’t work out this year.
  7. @IanCundall The Red Sox have three open 40-man spots ahead of this evening’s Rule 5 deadline and I think they will protect three pitchers: RHP Luis Perales RHP Wikelman Gonzalez LHP Shane Drohan
  8. Glasnow for Winckowski Wikelman
  9. The Sox wasted Ted's prime anyway. By the time DiMaggio retired, the Sox were on track to be basically a 4th place team for a decade. Trading Ted wouldn't have changed the outcome of the franchise all that much. The Sox were in the wilderness from 1952-1966.
  10. Doesn't have a swing built for Fenway. Pass.
  11. I don't know how anyone could really forecast what Crag wants. My preference would be a RHB with a good glove. Urias has pop with a hole in his glove.
  12. Agreed on Mayer. Will be interesting to see how the '23 draftees perform in their first full year. Also agree on Gambrell. He was forgotten due to the injury. Sox don't have many starters on the farm of value, so any of note are fun to watch.
  13. My worry is that they get one good pitcher and the second pitcher is paid decently but is really a #4. We already have a few guys that can pitch like a #4 IMO. I'd rather spend that 10M towards a RHB or increase the offer on the top tier pitcher...
  14. Maybe he'll be good in a commercial with Wally?
  15. We need another TalkSox kingsmoot considering how the post totals are these days...
  16. Yeah, they aren't trading Masa this season. I think he's due for a rebound and if it's true that other scouts/execs think he's overpaid, there won't be many takers.
  17. How quickly Roman can tear apart Portland? Can Nick Yorke produce results in AAA better than '22? Do Wikelman, Perales and Monegro continue to progress? Is there anything to Mikey Romero?
  18. Yup, lots of contracts coming off the books and an infusion of young talent. It SHOULD be cheaper to run this ballclub so they SHOULD be able to afford some more expensive guys.
  19. He's not a guy I'd be overly excited about. Two guys you mentioned: Clevinger 22-23: 4.61 FIP Giolito 22-23: 4.70 FIP I don't know if Flaherty is much worse than them in my mind.
  20. His xFIP was UGLY last year. Plus, he's a bad dood.
  21. FanGraphs projects him to have the same fWAR as Wacha and more than Clevinger.
  22. Add enough pitching so that he slots in as the #5.
  23. It's only one more year for Sale and they should just go over the CBT anyway.
