  1. That amount is even crazier than what I imagined then. Are you having them solely pitch out of the pen or in a combined role? If just in the pen, there is a 0.00% chance anyone on the Sox staff gets to 100 innings alone. No way unless it's as a piggyback guy WHICH THEY SHOULD NOT DO.
  2. In '22 and '23, those IP's include games started. If he's solely pitching out of the pen, he won't get to 70 innings IMO. Neither would Crawford. That's why I don't see them getting to 140 innings COMBINED.
  3. He's an above average pitcher who has struggled to stay healthy. He was worth 12M last year according to FanGraphs. Pitching in DET could work out well for him, but he's older and he could have more increased IL time? Maybe he'll be fine now that he's post TJS? If 12M is 1.5 fWAR, he's been worth that every season except for the year he was out with TJS.
  4. Only 20 relievers got 70 innings or more last season. Unless the Sox are going with openers again, I'm not sure how likely that is this year for them.
  5. The Giants rotation was basically Logan Webb and a mishmash of veteran starters: Cobb, DeSclafani, Wood, Manea, Junis and Stripling. I think they ended up using openers out of necessity. If Harrison was ready sooner, he would have been in the rotation all year.
  6. "COULD" stick as a starting pitcher. How is that any different than what they tried with Houck or Whitlock. We though either of them COULD have stuck as a starter too. And for 50M? No.
  7. He's a reliever. Not sure it's a great fit when they've already tried that with Whitlock and Houck as tweeners.
  8. The k rate is good, but the hard hit rate and the bb rate is bad. I think '22 was an indicator of good luck rather than '23 being an indicator of bad luck.
  9. I think it's the same argument. They should spend the vast majority of their offseason money at the top of the rotation. Giolito would be a backup to the backup plan.
  10. At least one of Crawford or Whitlock (maybe both) will be headed to the bullpen. You even had a scenario where Crawford would start in AAA. At this point, they are both replaceable for a guy like Burnes.
  11. Yeah, I'd rather have Burnes than those three.
  12. If he's better, then that's why you do it.
  13. I guess it's time to make a Mark Langston stan account and go bother some people...
  14. By giving them a large FMV contract.
  15. Bowden is a scumbag who doesn't know what he's talking about. Not sure why the Athletic gave him a job.
  16. Kutter and Whitlock for Burnes.
  17. Aside from providing innings, does he give the Red Sox anything better than what they currently have? I'm not sure and he's going to be expensive.
  18. Giolito had a bit of shine for a while, but he's had two straight years of YUCK. If they are signing him he'd be another 5th starter, but with more upside. He would probably be an overpaid 5th starter though. His peripherals aren't great either. Flaherty is probably a much cheaper option than Giolito, but you have to go even further back to find him being productive. He COULD be better than Kutter, but I think I'd rather just use money spent on Flaherty towards the top of the rotation instead. Just get two really good to great pitchers please.
  19. Some people out here think they are fact checked as much as anyone, but really I'm the truly the MOST fact checked poster even though I take weekends off!
  20. If they are going to trade for a pitcher, they need to extend them no matter what. Otherwise, why would the be trading for them?
  21. Snell has had 2 CY seasons and a bunch of other years where he can't break 130 innings. I don't want him at all. Can we do Burnes and Monty?
  22. No, they drafted Yorke early to spend bigger later. They had no clue that Blaze would still be around then. It could have been any number of big $ prospects in that spot.
  23. If they are going to overpay, I don't know if Cease is the guy I'd do it for. His velo was also down last season. CLE said they won't trade Beiber. Not sure if the Rays would trade within the division. Burnes has the true aces potential and seems like the best fit to me too.
