No. Wheeler's next best season was only 1.3 fWAR less. Burnes' was almost 3!

"Perfect" in terms of how they perceived that guy to be at the time. Yes, there was significant risk because you don't know how his game would translate as well as the inherent risk of pitcher injury. Typically, Japanese pitchers do well. Maybe he's more Yu Darvish than Pedro Martinez (very good not great), but that's not a bad thing. I don't see him flaming out unless it's due to injury.

7.2 4.2 5.9 7.5 4.6 3.4 I would NOT say the samples look the same to me. Wheeler's second best season is +1 greater than Burnes. Same with the third season. Burnes is also trending DOWN, especially when you look on Statcast. That's not the case for Wheeler.

Utterly meaningless. I think it matters that Whitlock has added a pitch. I think it matters that Story looks confident and healthy. I think it matters that the Sox have determined that they want Rafaela to start in CF. I think it matters that Duran is still hitting. I think it matters that we've seen immediate returns from Bailey.

He'll also swing at a lot of pitches other hitters wouldn't swing at.

They met with Yamamoto and made some sort of offer. My guess is that they'll spend on a certain pitcher type at the right time. I think they just looked at this year and figured it wasn't worth spending money on this club with this FA class.

@BOSSportsGordo Hard to not like what you saw from Richard Fitts today against the defending champs: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 Ks Good velocity, nice slider, felt in command. Gonna be an interesting guy to watch this year. Posted this here so that I don't get yelled at elsewhere for being too trusting.

It's not like they are having Weissert take over closing duties or looked at Walter's ST numbers and pushed him into the MLB rotation. The difference between Bernardino and Weissert isn't that great. The call was really between releasing Joely and keeping Bernardino on the 26 man or keeping Joely and optioning Bernardino. Not sure they need Joely AND Bernardino.
